We *may* have a holiday on the cards, and I really want to try onsite this time. Problem is, my mum found a nice condo offsite- and at £40 a night it's hard to beat. It's also booked from March 4th next year- which is when we want to go.

I thought of maybe suggesting a split stay- few days in our condo, few days onsite? The problem is that now I'm 18 we need two rooms since no way am I sharing with my mum! The values are pretty cheap- about £380 for 5 nights, meaning about £700 for two rooms? I'm not opposed to staying in a value- Pop Century looks awesome!

Or maybe just a night..

wy would you not share a room with your mum just ebcause you are 18? I shared with my mom and I was 36!

But to assist you -- On top of the condo price, you need to add on the cost of a rental car to get around, as well as parking fees at the parks, as well as gas.

Even being conservitive with the rental fee at £20 a day and the parking at $15 a day that brings you to about the cost of a fun value on resort.

Look out for discounts as well during your planned date, you may be able to get 25% off the room rate, or free dining.

What exactly is the problem with sharing a room? Since you are obviously trying to budget a bit, seems like sharing a room means you could stay on site. That way you could take advantage of all the extra perks resort guests get, ie. extra magic hours, free transportation around the resort area as well as to and from the airport, free parking, etc.

Well, we're used to having a 3 bed condo and our own space so sharing a room doesn't seem so attractive in comparison! Maybe for 1 night but not any more.

We would have a car, so no need for Disney transport unless one of us goes off on our own.

It's all about choices. Which do you value more..... the extra space? Or the on-site perks? I love being fully immersed in the Disney magic and would take the on-site shared room in a heartbeat.

Pop Century is a great resort and if you are able to find them - discounts may work that bring your per night stay down close to 40GBP (you would have to share) - but I love the perks of staying onsite!

If you plan to go to Universal or Sea World as well- it may be better then to have an off site stay and a rental car - or how about a split stay?? That way you'd have some space away from your mum for part of the trip and some onsite Disney magic as well?

Good Luck!

The bottom line in picking a resort, onsite, offsite, whatever, always comes down to how much time you plan to spend in the room with the people you are traveling with.

I'm not really understanding the problem with sharing a room with your mom either, after all there are two beds, but to each their own. If you're planning on hanging out IN THE ROOM, then I guess a condo is your best option. But if you're more likely to be at the parks, or enjoying whatever resort you pick (pool, shopping, foodcourt) then I'd definately choose to stay onsite. The overall "Disney-ness" of the onsite hotels, the convenient transportation and the access to early/late magic hours, the dining plan etc. is well worth it.

A split stay was what I was thinking- part offsite, part on which is why we would have our own car. It would be a little too expensive for us to spend our whole holiday onsite!

It's just that I would love to try it after 6 offsite holidays.

Also, how do you get a pin? Is there something you need to do? Subscribe to a newsletter? Sell your soul to Mickey? (jk)

if anyone knew how to get a pin, we would all have them..

i used to get one every 3-4 weeks (email and snail mail) then they all of a sudden stopped and i have not had one for 3 years now..

Make sure you're saving "offers" onto your profile on the Walt Disney World Vacation planning site. Also make sure your current information like mailing address and email address is updated. This shows Disney you're thinking about a vacation in the future. They often use PINs as a "closer" to get you to book

Still not a guarantee though. I know. Still president of the No-Pin club.

My ILs and I generally live in separate houses in separate states.

For our trip to Disney, my MIL, FIL, DH, myself, and my son about to turn 3 all stayed in a savanna view room at AKL. It was the best way to afford the vacation.

We didn't have any problems :confused3

I actually can't imagine going on a vacation with only 2 adults (who are related to each other) and having separate rooms...seems like a waste of money.

Who's paying for the trip? Because if it's your mom, then it's her call as to how she's going to spend her money and whether than means you are going to have to share a room with her.

(I went to Disney in Feb with my 18 and 13 year old daughters. If my 18 year old had tried to suggest that I needed to get a separate room for her because there was no way she was going to share a room with me, I would have left her at home.)

The problem is, mum doesn't really like sharing a room with me either. 1 bathroom won't work with our family!

I'm hoping to save up enough to pay for at least a room for me but it may take some time.

My best justification for staying onsite is free DDP. I know for this year, my dates for free DDP went all the way until 7/8 as I was planning a trip at that time.

Then again, for my family of 4 staying in a value, free DDP trumps even a free place to stay. ymmv
