Has anyone stayed offsite with an ECV. I do not use one all the time just at Disney and I wonder if it would be terribly inconvenient to stay offsite at a resort.

We do all the time we get to use a friends time share so we stay for free I always rent a car and mostly bring my scooter I think it's the best way to go you need to have a vehicle that can carry the scooter and be able to take it apart or in my case I have others that take it apart and put it together for me

I've stayed offsite several times and always with my own ECV. I never rent a car, I travel alone, cannot break my scooter into pieces by myself, and I rely on either the free resort shuttle transport or, if I need to be somewhere their shuttle doesn't go, or at a different time of day, I call a MEARS accessible taxi.
It really depends on the resort as to how convenient the transport is.

They break down into 4 or 5 pieces depending on which kind you get. The go go scooters from Pride are probably among the lightest ones to rent. They have a smaller battery and no captain's chair, but they suffice. You do have to remember to shut your scooter off when you are standing still like watching a show or a parade; otherwise, your battery could give out. If there are long ride queues it might be good to turn the scooter off in that case, too. You have to be deligent and charge your battery ever night.

The base of the scooter can be a handful for one person to get in and out of a trunk. The battery is heavy like 30 to 35 pounds and the base is about the same. We are two, older people and we manage. My hubby has done it a few times by himself, but not too often.

You can probably go to a local mobility store and practice with taking one apart and putting it into a car. That way you can get an idea of how it is to fit and lift into a car. They will demostrate it for you and then you should try on your own.

We have bought a cart that can carry the battery alone; so, we charge the battery up without the scooter each night. This saves on taking out the scooter each night. If you want the scooter out at the resort then you may want to drive the scooter into your room each night.
