just wondering if anyone thinks this is a good idea -- my son saw the commercial for the nick hotel and he is dying to stay there. what r the advantages to staying on site? we r not planning on doing the meal plan. anyone stay at the nick hotel? thanks!

If you're going to WDW, don't stay at Nick. Your kids will want to stay at the hotel and you'll get all frustrated because you want to go to the parks. Lucky for me, I learned alot of info such as this from the Orlando Hotels & Attractions link and planned accordingly.

My DD has been asking for more than a year to go to the Nick Hotel. This trip I have one night schedued. We are celebrating her birthday with her cousins who live locally they are coming to spend the night with us. We are going for one night and then spending the next day at the resort at the end of the Disney trip.

I have read very mixed reviews and I am not expecting much but my DD is going to love it so I can put up with Sponge Bob for one night!

Keep in mind that, although this used to be a Holiday Inn, the Nick hotel is not cheap! I'm sure your kids would like it, but be prepared for a lot of "input". Its not a quiet place and if you're doing a Disney trip, I'd be inclined to spend the night at a moderate for the same money......but, if the kids have their heart set on it, I'm sure it'll be fine.

We stayed there 6/20&22 '07. We loved it! I found a code online for $129 per night. The only way to see characters is a character breakfast or dinner. The food court is pricey. The room was very clean. There is a slime drop by the pool every day at 4:45 pm (it's just green water). There are organized activites by the pool. The kids did fine when we "moved" to Pop Century for the WDW portion of our trip.

We've been to WDW 3X in the last year and a half (fourth is coming up in October) and stayed at Nick 2 of those times. I won't go back. The first time was a disaster - so much so that we got several free nights for going back (which we used on our 3rd trip). In my opinion, it's way overpriced for what you get. Our 2nd trip and our next trip were at a WH condo, which we absolutely LOVE. I can't see myself going anywhere else. Plus - for the cost of three nights at Nick, I can stay at least 8 (or more) at WH - and there's much more room to spread out!

We're doing ONE night there to kick off our Jan '08 trip....basically because the kids want to. They'll get the "Nick jonses" out of their system, and then we'll move on to AKV for the rest of the trip.

We stayed at the Nick for one night last October, using Priority Club hotel points to extend a business trip (we'd been at the Grande Lakes for 3 nights previous). DS10 is a huge Nick fan, and loved the Danny Phantom suite . . . also loved having the game system in the room since we don't have one at home. The game system wasn't working right when we arrived; the front desk sent up a technician who repaired it pretty quickly.

Breakfast with Spongebob was a big draw for us. I don't regret it, but I don't think I'd spend that much for it again. They did a funny little dancing bit partway through . . . I got a video of it actually, with the extra added bonus being that you get to watch DS hide from the camera (gee, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me posting it, but I'm uploading it now to YouTube . . . :rolleyes1 ).

Here's a YouTube from breakfast with Spongebob . . . kinda lousy video production and all, but you kinda get the look of the restaurant and the vibe of the place.

It's a short video, but do stick around for the end. For some reason the bored guys dancing at the very end crack me up every time.
