Staying just outside the Maingate - what can we do first night?

Our plan is to do DTD when we get into town Monday night. We have the 99cent kids meal coupons for Rainforest Cafe, and we're going to let the kids explore and dream.

One question, where is a good place to see the fireworks from DTD?

There are always crowds around ESPN Zone and over by the DStore.

If you really want a unique view of the fireworks then you can go to the top of the M&F parking structure. You'll see some of the DL backlot from there so some people don't like that view. Even if you don't park in the structure, you can still take the tram over and then the escalators to the top.

You'll need to allow for travel time on the tram so you won't miss the show.

Ooh, ooh, where did you find that coupon? That would be great for our trip in November with our DGD. Thanks!

We always check in early to our hotel to let the kids go swimming. Then it's DTD for shopping and meals. We try to get all our shopping done at the World of Disney at that time so we can bring it back to the hotel and not have to worry about shopping (for the most part) while at the parks.

This year we're going to check out the refurb on the Disneyland Hotel, just for kicks, and maybe have a meal at the fast service place there (we're not big spenders on meals).

LOl - I think my DH would go crazy for Ridemakers! Sounds like fun ...... and DD and I can go to the Build-A-Bear which is apparently really close by.

You'd spend a lot more doing those *fun* things then you would adding a day to your PHs.....

Don't I know it! My DD has a bunch of Build-A-Bears already, and in just reading the details about Ridemakers to my DH, he actually sounded interested, as in, he now wants an RC car.

Our plans for our first night aren't so much about saving the money for the PH tickets (adding 1 day to our existing 3-day PHs), but more about easing into the whole Disney thing. My DD and I are arriving a day earlier, so we'll be picking up the rest of our group around noon or so (there's 7 of us total) who will have gotten up much too early for the flight. I do like the idea of a light dinner and stroll around DTD and then getting to bed early!

We did dinner at Goofy's. While the price bump for an extra "day" in the park is minimal, as the only driver in the family I needed the first night to be relaxing and low key before going full tilt in the morning. Besides, for our daughter's first trip I wanted to do rope drop and see her get her first look at the castle wide awake and in daylight. :)
