We are staying for 10 nights in June. What are your thoughts of breaking up the stay within Aulani - 5 nights in studio ocean view and 5 nights in island view. The first 5 days we stay at the resort and the last 5 we take day trips around the island. This will save some points, change the view / location, save on resort tax fees, and we get a cleanroom. Is this a bad idea?

The only downside I can think of is having to pack/unpack in the middle of your trip AND you'll be "homeless" for most of the day you transition.

Changing rooms is pretty easy. You have to pack your stuff, but bell services will grab your bags and bring them to the new room.

If you decide to do five nights at Island View and then five nights at Ocean View, you may want to begin your stay with Island View and switch to Ocean View. I fell in love with Ocean View on my 2022 trip compared to Island View on my 2021 trip. It may not be enjoyable to go from Ocean to Island View.

I agree on doing Island View first and then Ocean View, but can you switch your touring days to the first half of the trip? I just came back from a trip where I did the touring during the first half, and then it was nice to relax for the second half. And it would be nice to have the ocean view for your relaxing days!

Also, I’d recommend touring on the day you switch rooms. Hopefully when you’re back for the day, your new room will be ready (or shortly after you get back)!

For accomodations just like so many other things in life, try to always move up in quality. Much better to be pleased with a nicer view on vacation than disappointed with an inferior view. The island garden view also can be saddled with unpleasant sounds like traffic and very anoying beeping.

I don't think that the ocean view is worth the extra points at Aulani. Stick with the garden view and ask for a high floor. If you don't have to move, then I wouldn't. Use the points to stay longer if you can.

I disagree with all of this.

At Aulani in particular, I think it's much more impactful walking into an ocean view room on your first day and just being blown away by it. I don't think you'd get the same "wow" impact checking into the room on Day 6.

That said, on a DVC stay of 10 nights, you're going to get full housekeeping (roughly) halfway through anyways, so your room will be cleaned even if you don't change rooms.

Also, we have found that we like the pace of an Aulani stay much better when we do half-days of activities around the island. So rather than 5 days of activities and 5 days of resort time, I'd do something like 2 full days of activities, 2 full days of resort time, and 6 days where you do a morning activity and then spend the afternoon at the resort.

I agree that it might be nicer to start with the Island View then upgrade. I would also request an Island View studio that ends in -79 or -85 as you will have a partial oven view there too. My parents and my family stayed in 1 beds on that side ( -77 & -83) that had partial ocean views and we could see the Luau too. Have a great time. Whatever decision you make will be the right one 😀.

I also prefer the commando touring up front and relaxing at the end (if the touring plan is tied to accommodations like in this case). That plan also gives you the flexibility to reschedule an activity if it gets canceled for weather or some other reason.

I also suggest making a room request for higher garden view to save points. My son had 779 and my daughter had 785; both their view were better than mine 778 (ocean)

Thank you for all the replies and advice. It was most helpful. We decided to keep 10 night in an Ocean View, in the same room. We dropped the Island View nights. Ultimately, this is our 1st trip to Aulani (want it to be memorable) and the point difference between the two was doable (only 25 point difference)..... The flights were not cheep (Florida to Hawaii), so we thought why deal with the hassle of moving and losing a room in-between the switch for 1/2 a day. Plus our little ones (who are not so little anymore), one will be a senior next year and the other is heading off to college, So this trip will be a memory-maker.....
