Staying in same unit - is it possible?

In planning our 2013 trip we have some family that want to stay with us for the first 3 nights so we need to get a 2 BR for those nights. I don't want to waste points keeping the 2BR beyond those 3 nights. I assume that if I book a 1BR of the same category there isn't any assurance that I could keep the same unit so we don't have to move (this is AKV value so far less units to worry about having to move to)

Am I correct in my assumption or is there some way beyond a request to make this happen possibly?

You will absolutely need to reserve a lock-off 2BR and then add a request that you can stay in the 1BR after the first 3 nights. We have been able to do this many times, but it won't be guaranteed. We ask that the request be noted, ask again at arrival, again the night before and then go down early the next morning to reinforce the same request. Most resorts will be happy to honor the request but it still sin't likely to be guaranteed until you are actually there.

I agree with Doc, but I will also tell you that every time we have done that at OKW, we have always been able to keep the same 1 bedroom portion when we check out and in the second time. One time we even booked a lock off 2 bedroom and STARTED the trip in the studio portion for one night and then moved to the 2 bedroom part of the lock off the next day.

Either way will work, but I want to know what to expect if our request is granted.

You should get a full cleaning.

In our case, while staying at OKW and adding the studio onto the 1 bd; only the studio was cleaned. Since it was day 4 we should have had clean towels. I called housekeeping in the afternoon to ask about the towels and they were all confused because of the change. They sent someone up to do a trash and towel.

I don't see why you would get a full cleaning in the portion you are staying in unless you hit the 7 day point.

AKL honoured our request to do this last year. We were in a value villa. I went down first thing i the morning that my parents left and checked back in. They already had us down to go back into the same room. It did cause housekeeping issues but all was resolved in the end.

Got my 2 BR this morning now just have to wait to book the 1 BR

I've been lucky enough to get both the 2BR for the first few nights as well as the 1BR for the remainder of the trip (that I can book currently) in our desired AKV value category. The woman I spoke with at MS was extremely nice & helpful. She noted our requests Hopefully they come through!
