Thinking of staying at Vero Beach August 26 - 29th. Can anyone tell me about this resort and if the kids (both 12) will have fun here vs. staying at one of the disney resorts. I know we'll enjoy the beach.

Thank you

The resort is lovely. Dont expect as many activities or places to go as compared to being at WDW. It is definitely a laid back type of resort.
There are turtle hunts, campfires, nature trips and baseball spring training to name a few of the things we had available to us when we visited.

We really enjoyed it, it's a nice break after visiting the parks for a few days. Its a complete change of pace. We laid around, read books, played games, etc while we were there. There are some organized activities, and also games you can check out, the pool and water area, mini golf, campfire, and the beach. We loved it!

It's only about 2 hours from the World, so its a pretty easy getaway after spending sometime at WDW =)

i'm leaving this saturday for the vero beach resort! :cool1:

i'll let you know when i get back how it was. i can't imagine it not being great though. we're just looking to relax and have some quiet, quality family time before hitting the parks.

we'll be back the 1st of april, i'll be sure to post.

We discovered DVB several years ago and fell in love with this place. We were there last June and with 2 small kids, it's so relaxing and has such a great "Disney" feel. The resort is beautiful. There is so much to do there, it's like a cruise ship on land. Aside from the obvious beach & pool (with large pool slide for older kids like yours), there is close to 20 planned activities each day. Eb & Flo's is the usual place to sign up for activities near the pool. For your 12 year olds, these are a sampling of activities taken from the sheet from last year, in addition to the normal recreation (bikes, tennis, etc):

Jewelry & beads crafts, Disney movie night, yoga & aerobics, soccer, turtle adventures, beach walks, Disney Cel painting, waterslide races, surfing school, kayak adventures, scavenger hunts, bocce, chalk art, bingo, silk art, lawn games, etc. Each day is something different for everyone. What was really fun and lively is on Sat & Sun from 1-4pm there's a live DJ by the pool area playing music and organizing pool games. Kids of all ages were having a blast! The only bad thing about this resort is you'll wish you had more time there! Enjoy! Sharon

Most were free. There was a minimal length of stay or one time charge for min golf, dvd rentals, kids discovery club, excursions or tours. But all the miscellaneous activities like crafts, sports, pool games were free.

not all the crafts are free, the sandcasting and the tshirts involved a small fee. and some of the other activities like fishing also have a fee. maggie

We have two daughters ages 16 and 11. We have gone to Vero the past two summers after our WDW trips and plan on going again this year. We love it there.

My DDs love to get up a lil before we do and go down to the yard and play bocce (free). The pool slide races are fun too. There is a family bingo in the rec room... as well as a few other things. Not all the activities have a fee to them, but some do.. so make sure you check the paper work when you check in.

I'm with my DW. We loved it. If you're there and you see a man in his 40's with his small daugher digging a hole about 6 feet wide and as deep as they can get it, while sitting in the middle, and frantically trying to bail the tide water and sand out as it comes in, that will be us :teeth:
