We r staying at the contemporary in February. How hard is it to eat at a resturant nearby other than in the disney park. We will not have a car and will have to rely on either a bus or taxi. Any advice?

I don't know of any buses that would take you off-property to eat. I think getting a cab is pretty much your only option.

I think it's pretty hard without a car.

You can get some good deals on car rentals on various travel sites if you are up for driving around Orlando. And parking is free at the hotel.

If it's about trying to lower costs, the Contempo Cafe is actually quite good, so that is a plus for the CR as well.

If it's about trying to eat non-Disney food, which is understandable sometimes!, then I would try for the car rental.

Is there a particular reason???? It just seems that without a car, accomplishing this is going to be difficult and pricey (lots of cab fare).:moped:

There is Crossroads that is across the street from Hotel Boulevard. Lots of restaurants there (Pebbles, Pizzeriea Uno, Buffalo WW's, McDonalds, Friday's, Chevy's etc. ) Your best bet would be to bus to the marketplace and then take a cab, or walk. Walking from there is probably right at a half mile but there is a shaded sidewalk. Cab's wouldn't cost much over the minimum fare.

And this would be a very time consuming effort as well. Additionally from DTD to Crossroads it's just over a mile walk.

Giordano's Pizza delivers to some of the resorts (I'm not sure if they service ALL of them) and it's some of the best Chicago-style pizza you'll ever eat.

After paying cab fare I cannot imagine that you would save any money at all.

Just piling on...

Unless you're going to eat at Downtown Disney (accessible by bus) or Crossroads Plaza (almost accessible by bus), a couple cab fares will wipe out any savings over renting a car. Renting a car in February should be reasonably inexpensive, plus its nice to have. There's no charge at Disney resorts for self-parking and they'll give you a pass for parking at all the parks, which can be a plus over taking the Disney bus system...which you'd need for DHS and AK.

If you find you need a car only for a portion of your trip, you can also pick up and/or drop off the car at the Car Care Center, if you use Alamo/National (with notice, they'll pick you up at the resort so you can get the car)

My best advice is, if you are sold on eating offsite, rent a car.

You will be using up large amounts of time trying to use local buses (you can use the Lynx bus from TTC but it would take you a couple of hours to try and get anywhere and then another couple hours to get back) and large amounts of money using taxis. If it is just something you want to do once or twice you might be able to get by using a taxi, but if you are doing it to save money, you likely won't save much.

In my opinion- save the money on your hotel and stay offsite.

You would be wasting more time and money leaving the property to eat. There are so many great options on property- both healthy and/or cheaper if that is what you are looking for. You just have to search the menu's.

If you are looking to explore Orlando and try the local fare then you may as well stay offsite. International Drive is awesome for food and hotels!

You will pay a fortune in cab fare, and waste a lot of time in my opinion.
29 trips to Disney World and counting...next stop POFQ March 2014:woohoo:

With Penny's first and only post using [r] for [are] and [dis], she may not be old enough to rent a car or even drive.

Realize that WDW covers over 40 square miles....it can be quite a distance from some spots in WDW just to get off property.

The closest, most accessible offsite restaurants to the Contemporary will be at the Crossroads shopping center. By the time you take a Disney bus to Downtown Disney and then walk down Hotel Plaza Blvd to get to Crossroads, it'll take you around an hour, minimum, just to get to the restaurants. And then an hour back. Assuming an hour to eat, you've just blown three hours, just to get a meal.

If you take a cab, I think it's seven-ish miles. It'll be much faster than bus/walking, but your cab fare will be between $15-20 each way, not including tips. That's not bad for one meal off-property, but if you're going to make a habit of eating offsite, it's going to get very expensive, very fast.

Keep in mind also that during peak season, even the off site restaurants are busy also.
