Staying at CR-can we use pool at Poly?

We base our resort decision on the pool! We have four kids and the pool is very important to them. They all love the volcano pool, it's a great pool, so we stay at the Polynesian. They do not necessarily ask for ID when you are swimming like they do at SAB, but when we were there in June, we did see them ask a family from Fort Wilderness to leave.
As far as not knowing what the rules are, there are signs saying that the pool and the beach are for the exclusive use of guests of the Polynesian Resort, so it would be tough to think it was OK to use the pool if you weren't staying there.

I would be suprised if a CM even bothered to ask if you were from that resort. You could easily take the Monorail to the poly and get in the pool. I have heard but have never been told not to pool hop. Although we never have. I could hardly see how they would stop it. Have fun. If you really want to go ahead the worse they can say is no.

I wouldn't be surprise if they asked for ID at the Poly. I've seen a few families tossed out because they weren't Poly guests. One family I know for sure were from the Wilderness Lodge. The lifeguards can ask for resort ID and do. I would be totally embarrassed being kicked out of a pool I didn't belong in!

Honestly, 99% of the population of people visiting WDW have never visited one of these discussion boards. And, the anti-pool-hopping rule isn't explained anywhere. So, it stands to reason that some guests make the honest mistake of assuming that they are free to use the amenities of other Disney resort hotels. Why else would newbies come on to these boards and ask the question?.
The only way the newbies could fiend ignorance if is they are illiterate. When you check into the resort there is the paper that tells you that the resort pool is only for the resort guests. If that doesn't draw their attention then there is always the 6 x 10 ft signs around the pool itself that tells you that the pool is for that resorts guests. Honest mistake my butt.

I have never been or seen anyone asked for ID. Sure I guess they could. I know I would be very annoyed if I were in a pool and told to get my ID by a lifeguard. Me and that lifeguard would be visiting the GM of that resort!

To the original poster - Go ahead enjoy the pool. If they throw you out laugh it off. But go ahead and enjoy.

P.S. Bring your resort mug too.

Are you kidding? The lifeguard would be doing his job. We always stay at the Poly and I would not mind a bit if I got carded. I would prefer it then have those that do not pay be there. The GM at the Poly, I know him, would toss you out on your ear!

Wow you are condescending. If I were staying at a resort and was told by the lifeguard to get out go back to my rrom and get my ID. I would be ticked. I would be in the GM's office with a complaint. Now if you think that warrants getting tossed out on my ear you aren't very nice now are you.

But you aren't being very nice with your attitude about pool hopping when you shouldn't be (signs telling you so; check in paperwork telling you so). How about how people staying in those resorts feel about you pool hopping at their resort when you aren't suppose to be? That's not very nice either...

I hope they card everyone like they do at the BWV and the BCV cause the rules apply to everyone, not just those who choose to follow them.

Let me first say I have never pool hopped. And probably never will since my schedule on vacation is usually rather full.

On our trip to the CR in May there was a huge Oncology convention going on. I met alot of people in the pool who weren't staying at our resort swimming. I never once thought that they were committing such a horrible act that I needed to scold or report them to the Disney authorities. They were just having some fun. Not hurting anyone. So to that end I see nothing wrong with it.

Does anyone really read all the literature they give you at check in. I DON'T. My kids are usually dragging me down the hall so we can get going. Just my 2 cents.

Just a comment or two while I sit and munch...

We stayed at the CR after our stay at the Poly and my kids were quite happy with the pool and slide, no complaints at all, just happy to be at WDW. ;) It's also pretty fun to watch the Electric Water Pageant from inside the quiet pool. :wizard:

You'd better not plan on staying at the Beach or Yacht Club resorts then... at SAB they do "card" guests and issue wristbands. However, I am sure the GMs at those resorts would love to spend time discussing their pool policy with you.

I really don't think there is much of a debate here. Pool hopping is not allowed unless you are a DVC member staying at one of the DVC resorts on points.

If you are pool hopping, you are cheating. If you wish to pool hop (just speaking to the masses here) then go ahead an cheat the system. Just keep in mind the havoc you maybe causing other families staying at that resort. The pool will be more crowded than it should be.

Look, it used to be that pool hoping was Explicitly allowed. Let me repeat that, Disney encouraged you to pool hop. So to me, the ability to hop pools is part of the magic. I've never had to sign anything stating I wouldn't pool hop and the ban was really only instituted because of Storm along bay.
To turn the issue on it's head, If Disney hadn't built a bunch of cheap resorts with bad pools, this wouldn't be an issue.

Huh??

Because Disney used to allow it, that is part of the magic? That doesn't even make sense.

Let me repeat what others have said-it is not allowed NOW. Who cares what the policy was years ago.

How do you know why the ban was instituted?
