Hi, just been looking at other peoples posts staying 1 night at a different hotel and just wondered if it was worth it! We are staying at SS for 2 weeks at the end of october, I always thought it would be fab to eventually try and stay at most of the Disney hotels and this might be a way of doing that! It would be too expensive to stay at AKL for 2 wks but for 1 night with the savannah view it would be £235! Still expensive but would it be worth it for the experience?

Not a chance I would pay that for 1 night Savannah view, we paid about £70/nt a few years back with AP discount.
Have you looked at rentng points, I was looking for our Nov trip, worked out at under £100/night, still too much for me but if you are considering £235 then £100 is cheap.

I was gonna' say rent dvc points. We paid £90 a night last year at AKL and it's the only way we could have afforded to stay there, totally amazing experience.

Thanks guys, thats why I love this site, people's knowledge of whats good and what's downright barmy lol :rotfl2:

I have heard of renting points but honestly don't have a clue what it is if someone could tell me a bit of info :thumbsup2

Check out the following link for Q&A's on renting points from a DVC member.

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/renttrade-faq.htm

If you also post the date you are looking for, I or I'm sure another DVC member will check the availability and the number of points you will require.

You can rent different sizes of rooms from a studio, 1-bed, 2-bed and a 3-bed grand villa.

For the different sizes of rooms and resorts information check out http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/resorts.htm and click on the individual resorts links such as http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/Resorts/aklodge/villas.htm

If you are staying more than one night there is no daily housekeeping - doesn't worry us but some people don't like it.
Depending on who you rent from - most people will not allow you to get a refund if you have to cancel and it can be difficult to reschedule. You also can not access anything on the reservation that has to be done by the member. You have to understand that it is not them being difficult (people generally only rent points because they can't use them) but with the way points work you have set deadlines when they need to be used by and booking short notice reservations for DVC is very difficult (and short notice is anything under 6 months most times).

We own DVC and I personally wouldn't rent points from another member. I would have them transfer to my account but I like the control and renting doesn't give me that.

I'd do it. :) And we probably will do in the future too. If love to try more of the CL at the deluxes so would be tempted to have one night CL while staying elsewhere.

AKL is a wonderful resort. As other have said rent points. We did last trip and actually preferred the DVC room to the standard room we had the trip before.

The first trip we got a great deal so 2 weeks at AKL was £1300 and we got an upgrade to Sav view on arrival. Second trip we knew we wanted Sav view but there were no offers and renting points was a great way to make it more affordable. We didn't miss the housekeepIng and loved having the kitchenette.

We used dvc rental . com last year, very reputable so we felt completely comfortable with the reservation, although I wouldn't heaitate to rent from a member on the boards either if they had a good track record too. The lack of housekeeping didnt bother us at all, we aren't messy enough that it's that much of an effort to tidy up. The room
was gorgeous, and looking at pics of a standard room, I prefer the DVC studio layout too to be honest.

The only downside to renting for us is that we have to pay the total up front months on advance to secure the reservation, which is an issue when we don't use credit cards just debits. Other than that, it's fantastic. One of the best Disney experiences we've had so far, felt like a million dollars staying there!
