Staying at a Disney resort after cruise

Hello I'm sure this has probably been answered before but I have been looking for 2 days and haven't found what I was looking for so I thought I should just ask myself. Question number 1 is, If we are staying at one of the resorts after the cruise do we have to carry all our bags with us off the ship or will they go ahead and take it to the resort for us? And if so do they get delivered to our room there? Question number 2 is, if you have the dinning plan how soon does that kick in after the cruise? Do we have to check in first for it to be activated? This is our third cruise but only our second time going to Disney world so we are still pretty new to that part plus I can't really remember how taking the dcl transfer to the resort worked.

For question 1, you can leave your bags outside the stateroom the night before and then pick them up prior to clearing customs after you leave the ship. You will then drop them off to be stored under the bus you take to the resort, retrieve them from the bus upon arrival, and either carry them yourself or hand them off to bell services at your resort. The same procedure applies if you choose to carry all your bags with you as you leave the ship. In either case, there is no Magical Express-like luggage handling that includes ship to resort room transfer and avoids your having to take the bags through customs. That would be very nice.

To answer question 2, yes you will need to check in to activate your dining plan.

I couldn't find anything on my search, so maybe someone can help here - was wondering what is the earliest time I can expect to be at the Contemporary after we disembark from our cruise? We will have our own car and not be doing the Disney bus.

We made it to 9:30 Mass at Queen of the Universe after disembarking the ship while using our own car. That's the only time that I remember as far as noting the time. We did not hand carry our things off the ship.

Driving yourself, you could be at WDW anytime between 8:30 and 10:30am depending on what time you debark and get on the road. Expect approximately an hour drive from the port. You can be off the ship as early as 7:30 if you so desire (maybe earlier). Or you can have a more leisurely breakfast and then debark a bit later. DCL wants all passengers off by 9:00am.

Don't forget that check-in time is 3pm. I don't know how they are about early check-ins, but at least, as I understand it, you can leave your bags there, if you want and do other things. You can also use their pool, if I'm not mistaken.
