Have you or have you ever known anyone to stay in the room a good bit past the official check out time at Disney? Like say 12 or 12:30? (and not having late check out)

If so, what happened? Get caught? Get in trouble or charged extra? Made me wonder if this is more common place now, with Disney having such housekeeping issues.

I was checking out of All Star Sports this morning and was still in my room getting ready to leave at 10.55am or so. A CM knocked on my door, I opened it, and said I was just about getting ready to leave my room (I had suitcases by the door and nothing left out in the room). He nodded and went on his way.

So I suspect if I was trying to stay late (and had all my stuff still out in the room) it might have been quite obvious to the CM at this point?

From what I recall last year at WL/CCV housekeeping did start to knock on the door around 10am or so on check out day, so I think if we had stayed beyond 11am the housekeeping staff would have picked up on it.

I have wondered about that too …might just sit there after the 11:00 check out to see how long before they knock .
I know the room key won’t work if you decided to return after 11:00 … but as long as I haven’t left … Altho I would not want to be charged for an extra day.

Another thought that worries me… they have basically changed the check in time to whatever ….and I know some timeshares have a
10:00 a.m. checkout policy…. Worried about this happening at WDW now.

I can’t believe I just used such an old fashion term …Room Key haha

Not at Disney, but one time I just stayed later and then when housekeeping came I told them the front desk said I could stay an hour later and they left without questioning it.

The check in time has not changed to whenever unless you allow them to do such to you. But Disney would love for that to be the case. 3:00, 5:00, no wait, 6:30.

We always ask for late check-out (if needed due to flight times) and, except in the cases of DVC villas where it isn't possible, we have always been granted the request. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do this? Why possibly cause a confrontation with resort housekeeping or management?

And if you stay past the check-out time, unless you have prior authorization, you are just messing up the check-in time for the next guest who needs that room, furthering the problem.

If you are not particular about your room location, the majority of the time Disney is able to get you a room (cash room) way before check in time. Be positive!

So true. We have stayed on property over 60 times and I have only ever once had a check-in that was past the published check-in time. We usually have our room much earlier.

We also typically get into our rooms early, which is nice. We travel from Austin and love taking a really really early flight (6:00 am works for us, but we also don't have kids at home anymore... they get their own flights and meet us there!). That way we can drop our luggage at the bell desk and then enjoy the resort or Disney Springs for the late morning and early afternoon. So we get in when we get in. Never a big issue. We have stayed 30 minutes or so past checkout before, but always let the cleaning staff know. They didn't hassle us.

Actually years ago the room key did work way after 11:00 am. My husband and I had a long stay at the BWI CL and on our last day we had checked out of our room pretty early, left our bags with Bell services, and went to Epcot. We returned to the lounge around 5 pm for a quick snack before getting our bags and heading to the airport. As we left the lounge my husband mentioned that he should stop and use the bathroom before we left. I don't know what I was thinking but as we were walking past "our" room at the time I took out my room key opened the door and walked in! What stopped me was the TV was on and luggage that was not mine was sitting in the hallway. I quickly backed out and we walked away. I'm sure it was a glitch of some sort but whenever we return to the BWI one of us always mentions it.

I think some hotel systems will keep that key active until the next guest uses their key on the door.

We've never had our late check out request approved with a Disney hotel.

Swan Reserve could do +1 hour, but because it wasn't long enough it didn't matter.
GCH couldn't give us any late check out, though we did get very early check in.

We always have to leave our bags with the bell hop and never seem to have a great experience with it.
