I've been mulling this over for a few days now. I think I'm ready for it and want to see how many WISHers are up for a new challenge.

Quite a few of us seem to be obsessed with the scale. Some are okay with it and then there are others of us who want to break this evil addiction.

I propose a one month challenge to begin July 5, the day after the 4th of July Challenge ends. We can post weekly or daily for those that need that type of support, like me!

Since this is primarily a war of mind versus body I thought we could rank ourselves and our progress military style. Everyone that joins this challenge can start off as a Private, get through the first week scale free and you can advance to the rank of a Corporal; get through the second week weigh free and you'll be promoted to Sergeant; third week weigh free and you're a Lieutenant; for those that make it to 4 weeks without weighing you'll be a Colonel!

Sorry, this is all I could come up with because I don't know how to do the fancy colors.

Anyway, if you are interested in joining this one month challenge, please post here. I hope I don't end up doing this alone, I could really use the support to stay off the stupid scale! So come on, and join the "SCALE JUNKIES OF WISH - UNITE!" challenge and we can beat this addiction together!!!! ::yes::

I keep going to this post. I threw away my scale, so I weigh myself at my local grocery store, where I check my blood pressure (per doc's request) every four days. So, does that make me a scale junkie? I'm only 1 lb from my very first clippie, so I really want to weigh myself. But, if we can get enough people - I'm in!

Lisa:

What are the ground rules for this challenge? Only once a week for weigh-in, once every 2 weeks or stay off the scale for an entire month?

Or how about a Penalty for not following the rules??? I'm thinking that $5.00 should be thrown into a jar for each weigh-in not authorized. And that money should be combined for Make-A-WISH foundation or some other charity.

Hi, I am a recovering scale junkie. For years I was addicted to the scale and for years it just would go back and forth around the 300 mark. When I decided to really get fit, I threw away the scale and only get weighed at the doctor's office. It has been months since I was weighed and now that I am getting ready to go next week, I am already getting nervous. I did a 4th of July challenge with friends before I found WISH and I think I am going to Onederland. If I do, I will be really tempted to start weighing myself again as I get closer to my goal. That would be counterproductive for me. I have a tendency to let the numbers dictate how my day will be. This challenge will come at a great time for me so count me in. It will be even more important if I am inches away from onederland.

Ooh, Ooh, I LOVE the $5.00 donation to make a wish! Not only is this going to be helpful, it's going to be fun!

God this will be tough - I am going to WDW in 1week and for 1wk - I will have to have DH lock the scale in his tool box in his work van to be able to do this - but 1 month no weighing this might be just what I need to help me think beyond the numbers on the scale!

okay please count me in!

Sue

I'll do it!

I have been dieting and exercising for three weeks now. Haven't lost an ounce. Not sure on the inches but possibly. Yesterday that scale went down .5 lbs and it did dictate how I planned my day.

I will need to move the scale or something because DFiance is a scale junkie but has no desire to change that. Maybe to the upstairs bathroom. If I didn't have the scale in front of me everytime I go in the bathroom I don't think that I would weight myself.

So we start July 5th...ok I can do that!! :) I wanna be a Colonel! My grampy was a Colonel and I wanna be just like him! :)

Can someone take my tape measure away too.... :smooth:

This will be a challenge!
I am such a junkie although, i have come to realize that the scale does not mean I am or amnot progressing!
Anyway, i am in............
im signing up the day after 4th challenge, hopefully , I will have accoplihed that too!
I got about3 more pounds to go!

till then

It's so nice to have you guys joining me! This is such a scary prospect that I didn't want to do it alone! :teeth:

I think a penalty is a good idea. I have just the organization in mind that I'll put my $5 toward if I get weak but I want to be a Colonel too so on to our challenge!

To review: This is the "SCALE JUNKIES OF WISH - UNITE!" challenge. We will be starting July 5 and go for a full month without weighing ourselves. You can check in on our thread either daily (or hourly if necessary :)) or weekly, which ever you like. I'll try to update the thread each Monday and move people up the ranks as we all progress toward our goal. Hopefully no one will need to be penalized but having a favorite charity benefit if we do is a great idea (thanks Laurie!).

We would love to have more WISH friends join us in this challenge. Don't be shy. We can do this and be stronger for it! So let's kick the scale to the curb! :thewave:

Lisa,

I want to......I just don't know if I can really do this. I can do a "no weigh except for once a week" but for a whole month?

I'm in...even if it means I have to wait for my first clippie! This will keep me motivated to work hard...I won't be tempted to skip exercise if the scale is showing me a happy number. Ok, Lisa, I'll do it. Now c'mon all you WISH'ers out there. If I can do it and I don't even have a 5 lb. clippie to brag about, all you guys with your beautiful clippies can join in...how bout it?

count me in. I am tired of the scale dictating my life. :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I'm in! I'm losing my mind with the constant maintaining so it'll do me good. On July 4th should we all do a weigh in for our starting weight?:wave2:

Glad to have some more new recruits join us!

This challenge comes at such a perfect time for me. I'm up 1/2 pound for the week despite losing 7 additional inches for the month and fitting into a size 14 jeans (it's been over 20 years since I've been able to get into a size 14 anything). What makes it more bizzare is that I'm still a little over 200 pounds and can fit into these size 14 stretch jeans from Lane Bryant when the last time I was wearing a size 14, I was about 160 pounds. I exercise like a fiend and what's my reward this week? A 1/2 pound gain - this is NOT fun.

wilderness - let me know if you decide you want to join us. We would love to have you but I can understand. I thought this was going to be hard for me but after today's weigh in, I'm so mad at the scale that I'm ready for this. :)

twotoohappy - I plan on weighing in one more time to finish off the 4th of July challenge I started. So yes, I would weigh in by July 4th so you have some starting weight and then after our 30 days you can weigh again and make a comparison. We're happy to have you!

We've got 10 brave WISH recruits signed up so far. I see this thread has over 100 hits. Don't be shy, we'd love to have lots more WISHers join us!

Ok, I'll weigh in the 4th...... Uggh after all the food I'll definately want to stay away from the scale!!!

Bumpity Bump, bump, bump! I'm really looking forward to this challenge. Are there any more brave WISHer's?............

Hello fellow no scale challengers:wave: - I'll be leaving in 2 days to go to WDW and so I think my 1st week of the challenge will be pretty easy. DH tells me he will not hide the scale - that I need to do this challenge HONESTLY - So I started thinking  How can I not weigh myself! And I came up w/ an alternative to weighing myself. I have logged how 6 articles of clothing fit me now and each week I will try these items on and see if they fit differently/better - I am going to take a before picture with these items on (or trying to get on) and after the challenge I will post the before challenge photos and after challenge photos(Don't worry for items that dont't quite close I will color over any exposed areas I don't want to freighten anyone:eek: )

Well Good Luck Everyone - I know we can do this!

:earsboy: Okay I'm in. I do not own a scale, but I was seriously thinking of purchasing one. Hah! Not now!!!
I weighed yesterday at the store, I have lost 2 lbs since my Dr's visit on the 16th. But I was fully dressed so maybe in a month I can put on a clippie too!

July:smooth:

Lisa, count me in! The scale and I have been having such a rocky relationship lately that I'd rather kick it than get on it! :p

Seriously, I want to focus on how my body feels and how my clothes are fitting, instead of letting the number on the scale dictate how I feel about my healthy living journey.

Great idea, Lisa, and it will be easier knowing there are a bunch of us in it together!
