Stay at AKL or move to BWI?

Just wondering if either the water taxi or the skyliner are open for after hours?
Nevermind… just reread the entire thread. I’m sure you’ll enjoy either resort.
It's pretty annoying because official sources say transportation "options" are available for an hour after the end of events like this, but those options are basically buses, rideshare, and foot power ;).

I am hanging onto the AKL room right now and checking a couple of times a day for updates, including savannah view and a better discount at BWI. Plans could change at the last minute depending upon whether/how the tropical storm season develops by then, so I'm just trying to be open minded and as flexible as possible. Ask me how many refundable flights I have for that week, haha (thankfully it's just me, so I can do that!!).

For us, AKL is always going to be the preference over BW. But you need to do what makes the most sense location and cost-wise. Did you really mean 'water view' at AKL is your original post? Not sure what that means. To be honest, we have found on some trips much less walking the halls at AKL-Jambo than we do at BW. Good luck with your decision - not a bad choice either way!

Love that you keep all your options open!

That’s really annoying about lack of transportation with extended hours. :(

Yeeeeaaahhh, I think the water is chlorinated or brominated - and full of kiddos swimming ;).

Thanks so much! The boats don’t run after AH - I got lucky the time I got one from MK to GF, it was the last one and later than usual. Hearing from several people that the walkway is not well-lit or well-traveled at night was enough to convince me to cancel BWI. I have only been able to get the water view, unfortunately - I had a great standard view last year, over the pens, and would do that again if I could!! It’s over a month away, so things should open up…

There’s usually two boats running from the ML to GF/Polly. As long as people keep utilizing the service, at least one of the boats will continue until at least 60 minutes past closing.

The walkway is well lit IMO. Unlike the Contemporary walkway, it’s not well traveled throughout the day but there’s typically a crowd using it when the park opens and closes. Even if you’re the only person walking, there’s no reason to think it isn’t safe -- no crime has ever been reported, making even a late night solo walk safer than a daytime stroll via NYC, London, or anywhere else.

It’s typically less than a 15 minute ride on the monorail back to the GF. The resort line has become more popular in recent years but it’s doubtful you’d wait for more than one train. Unless your room at the GF is near the boat dock or walkway, the monorail is often the fastest.

This thread is about walking back to BWI after DHS after hours, not GF after MK after hours (which I’ve done, and agree with your comments) but thanks!
