Staunton, VA Hotel help

I'm looking for a cheap hotel in the Staunton, VA area for one nite in mid-April. I've looked at Tripadvisor and Priceline and the reviews are mixed.

Can anyone suggest a decent, safe but cheap hotel in the area?

Staunton is up in the mountains and I would have a hard time believing any area up there is a bad area. That being said, I have to go up to Woodrow Wilson Rehab Center for work occasionally and they usually put me up at the Comfort Inn on Richmond Ave. It's clean and quiet.

Yesterday Va Toursim had a $49 rate at The Stonewall Jackson Hotel there which is the historic downtown hotel. It recently reopened following a complete re do.

There isn't anything there that would be 'in a bad area.'. You will be fine with anyplace you pick.

Not sure how cheap you are looking for but this past December we were driving down I-81 and we were going to stay in Staunton but ended up finding a Hampton Inn a bit further South in Christianburg for $86 (after tax total). It's a few miles off of I-81 but very clean and quiet. Not sure how their April prices are but here's the hotel's site link.
