Status of Typhoon Lagoon

I stopped by the TL office today to see how things are going and to ask if I could see what has been done.

The Park will reopen on March 22 as scheduled. They are a bit ahead on the work, but even if done early they will not reopen the Park early.

The Lagoon has been completely replaced. There is so much concrete involved that it will take 26 days for it to cure properly before they can fill it.

Morning Surf Lessons and Evening Surf Parties will take place after reopening, they have been accepting reservations for about the last four weeks.

Other than the replacement of the Lagoon, everything else has just been minor and cosmetic improvements.

And they told me I could not go in; it is technically all a hardhat area and the only people allowed in are the construction employees and the people on the rehab team. I figured that seeing the work was not something worth being fired over, so I left.

Hi as it is not reopening until march do you know if it is planned to stay open over Xmas 2009 as it is usually its annual shut down then

It should be Blizzard Beach being refurb this Winter. Since TL is being done now.

At the office I was told that other than replacing the wave pool, there was one slide which received some extra work; everything else was the normal annual work only.

I would espect that we will have the regular eight or nine week closing as we do every year.

And I have heard that normally TL will always close first since there in no need (or minimal) to decorate BB for Christmas while TL would require decoration.

What Typhoon Lagoon needs is a wider entrance driveway.

Two lanes up, the same old one lane down. During peak busing times such as at closing, one of the up lanes is coned off for buses coming down. (The technical term is contraflow lane.) An officer directs traffic at the bottom.
