Stateroom question

I have been reseaching the different sized staterooms and what would work best for my family.

We were going to go with the deluxe family stateroom with the verhanda, but then I priced 2 ocean view staterooms (adjoining) and it actually came out less expensive. The thought of our teenaged daughters having their own room and bathroom is VERY appealing.

Can we get garunteed adjoining staterooms and will Disney have a problem with us having our two teens in that room without an adult sleeping in there as well (we will have the connecting door open nearly all the time)?

Our cruise group took a tour of different levels of rooms and I really liked the category 8 adjoining rooms - big porthole. When you book with Disney or your TA (ours was wonderful - even with last minute changes) you can request rooms - they will book you with one adult in each room but they don't care where you sleep. :flower:

Thanks so much. That is what I was thinking too, but I wanted to make sure.

If you can afford 2 rooms, go for it. You will have to put one adult passenger name in each of the rooms though. This means that you will be paying for 2 adults in each of the rooms.

We did just this.

Booked two adjoining Cat 9 rooms (2146-2148)

Technically there was one parent listed in each room, but the minute we arrived we told the steward what we were doing and it was GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

Best thing was the Doubling of space.

With the split bathroom (Shear Geniuson DIsney's part), we essentially had four bathrooms.

The girls and the parents (:earseek: ) had Loads of privacy. the girls even had a sleepover.

We didn't care they kept their room a bit messy, either.

ALSO one unexpected benefit:

When we rebooked on board (as you should do), we got DOUBLE credits for on board since it was $200 per cabin.

OMG, this was the second smartest thing I ever did (Marrying the right woman was the first).

A friend of mine from another board is doing this...I think it sounds great!!

They are getting two Cat 11 (hidden porthole connecting rooms) for their family of 4 for $100 less then a Cat 6. The Cat 11 hidden porthole rooms are actually cat 10 rooms on deck 5 or at least this is the rooms they have. This way they have twice the bathroom space. I told her to go for it!! We are seriously cnsidering doing this on our next cruise with the kids.

Hello, Do you know if there was a difference between the Cat 8 and Cat 9 portholes?

The portholes in category 8 rooms are the same size for the category 9 rooms on deck 2. The porthole is about 4 feet in diameter. The category 9 rooms on deck 1 have 2 small portholes - I don't know their diameter but maybe someone else can help with that.

The only difference between category 8 rooms and category 9 rooms is the deck they are located on; category 8 rooms are located in decks 5, 6, or 7 versus deck 2 (larger porthole just like category 8) or deck 1 (2 smaller portholes) for the category 9 rooms.

Hope this helps!

We did something similar. I don't know how old your girls are or if you would be comfortable with them being across the hall rather than in a connecting room?

We had a cat. 7 verandah cabin and a cat. 11 inside cabin directly across the hall.
It was a bit more than doing connecting cat 8's (not a lot)
but I NEEDED a verandah!
;)
It worked out really well for us.

btw, be sure to ask for connecting cabins not just adjoining. Semantics I know, but adjoining cabins might just be next door to each other without the connecting door between them.

:rotfl: Thanks Jim.. wow.. I am hoping my DH feels the same way.

we love our daughters dearly. They are the lights in our life...BUT being the fact that they are constantly argueing over the silliest stuff.. and our youngest is incredily messy, AND the fact that DH and I really really really would like a lil adult time mixed in on our family vacation, I think this is going to be what we end up doing.

Thanks for the bit of advice. At this point I think I would rather have them right next to me (just walk through a door to get to them). They will be 13 and 17 when we cruise so they would probably be OK.. but I am one of those worry wart Moms. ;) AND since I have already told them they can pretty much be on their own for most (we are going to get those motorola walkie talkie things) of the time onboard (have to stick to us like glue in Nassau) I want to be able to HEAR when they come "home" after the teen dance parties. They are really good kids and have never given me any real problems, but I still kinda like to keep a close eye on them.

Having the adjoining room door between the cabins was REAL nice.

We had private access without going in the hall

I do recommend you go to staples or office depot and get two LARGE rubber door stops to hold the door open (when you want to :smooth: ).

The doors are very heavy, which is a good thing when they are closed.

I think you will be incredibly happy with this system.

BTW, Guest services will give you and extra key (without charge priveleges) for each room, which we found helpful.

We also gave the girls a stack of $1's and $2's and told them they could do (the free stuff on) room service anytime they wanted, they just had to tip properly.

They thought that was so cool!
