Hi!
Can I put money on my stateroom folio pre-cruise using a Disney GC? We are pre-paying tips and wine package and wanted to see if I could put money into our stateroom folio account before we leave so I have one less thing to think about once on board. If so, do I call or can I do this on-line? (I'm not a vacation club member) We sailed with a cash account last year (7 day Fantasy) so I'm familiar with how that part works. :-) Thank you! Cheers!

Yep! That's what I've done on 3 out of my 4 DCL cruises. You just go to Guest Services (I go when I board as I'm usually early enough there isn't a big line - but they usually have them all working between boarding and Muster anyway as they know it will be busy) and tell them how much of the gift card you want to put on.

As an alternative, you can call the number for gifts and amenities and purchase on board credit with the gift card. That's what I did on my 4th DCL cruise.

In either case, be sure to hold onto the card (best to consolidate many onto one using the Disney Gift Card website if you have multiples) in case there is a refund.

THANK YOU! I did the guest service route last year yet I'd like to skip that step this year :-) Cheers!

You're welcome! Yep - I think you can buy in $25, $50, or $100 increments using the gifts and amenities number.

Thanks! If I wanted to use a GC I already have, is it possible to use that one to put the money in my stateroom folio pre-cruise?

Yep! I called up and said I wanted to buy $600 in on board credit using a Disney gift card (she was super happy I only had one). It was no issue.

(Use "buy on board credit" and not "put money in the stateroom folio" just to avoid confusion.)

But, you can do it on-board, too - right?

That is what I was planning. Because, knock on wood, if something happened and we had to cancel, I wouldn't want my gift cards tied up in the account. Sorry to think like that, but, you never know, that is why we buy the insurance!

Also, we have a card with Disney Visa rewards points. I've never used them on the ship before. But, go to Guest Services with that, too? Do you have to do it first thing or anytime during the cruise?

We have 3-4 gift cards, I didn't realize you could call and have them put on 1 card.

Yes. You can do it on board.

IF you cancelled, it would go back onto the gift card just like any other monies paid towards the cruise. Easy peasy.

I *think* for Visa points you have to convert them to a gift card - but I am not positive and have no clue how it's done.

As for combining them, you don't call. You go online to the Disney Gift Card website (just google it) and combine them there.

The Disney Visa points you get a gift card from the Visa people when you cash in your points. That's what you use to apply to the onboard account.

As noted, you can either pre-purchase onboard credit, by calling DCL, or you can go to Guest Services at any time once onboard to apply the gift cards.

Just to clarify ... Disney Visa rewards points must be transferred to a "Rewards Redemption Card" before you board. You can order one online (thru Chase) a few weeks before you want it, with a minimum of $10 or $20 reward points. More points can be easily and immediately transferred to it either online or by phone. If your cruise is coming up soon, you can get an empty Rewards Redemption Card at the Port Canaveral terminal, then call to transfer your available points to it.

I believe you can pre-purchase onboard credits using a Disney Visa Rewards Redemption Card in the same manner as using either a credit card or gift card.

Enjoy your cruise!

What is the difference between the two?

I have never heard Disney use the term "put money into a stateroom folio" just "onboard credit". Given that the people you're talking with may have never been on one of the ships, it's best to use their language - in this case "purchase onboard credit" - to avoid confusion and them saying "you can't do that".

Yes, we already have a redemption card with our points on them. I will transfer more points, right before the cruise.

And, thanks for the info about combining gift cards into 1, via the website. I'm going to go check it out!

You're welcome! I've just found if I can figure out their language it makes things go so much easier. :) (Another example: the Touring Plans room request fax service for the resorts has the primary line written in "Room Assigner Speak" so they know exactly what you are looking for. You can add on priorities such as 1. Top floor; 2. Lake view; etc. if you want, but it's best to leave that auto-filled line alone because that is pre-filled with their "language".)

If you put Disney gift cards on for shipboard credit, but don't use it all, will they refund the unused portion?

I think so and have heard to keep those GCs as they'll refund the last one you used ... Hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm :-) Cheers!

Yes. It will go back on the gift card(s) used. Which is why it is best to consolidate them onto one and only keep that one.
