Hi, I'm looking at a future cruise that currently has GTY/VGT availability. I also have another cruise coming up next week. If I wait until I get on board to book the GTY/VGT room, would I be able to earn the $100 stateroom credit for booking on board (it's a 5 night cruise)? Also, any possibility of a 10% discount on top of that?

Thanks in advance!

No you will not get 10% off s vgt rate or obc . You will also have to pay in full at time of booking.

GTY and VGT are different.

If you book a GTY (that is a specific category, but no room specified) I believe you will get the onboard booking perks.

VGT (last minute restricted fares, where you only select a type of room) is not eligible for onboard booking perks.

This is from the letter onboard re Onboard Bookings:
Offer not valid for Concierge level categories, IGT, OGT and VGT categories with restrictions and 2 night cruises.

The room I'm looking at is called "Guaranteed Verandah Stateroom with Restrictions" on the website and it looks like when clicking into it that it is VGT. If this is the case, is there zero benefit to booking on board instead of at home?

The benefit of booking at home is you could book through a TA and get OBC or book through Costco and get a cash card. There is no benefit to booking onboard and the VGT offer may be pulled by then.

When I book travel, I never like to use a TA. However, how does it work with booking with a TA and getting OBC? (I don't have a Costco membership to book through them). Are there any negatives to using a TA for this? Are there any recommended TA's? What kind of OBC do people typically get for this? What kind of fees are the TA's charging?

The negative for booking through a TA is that you have to contact them to make changes, DCL can't help you. There are no fees to use someone like Dreams Unlimited to book you cruise and they give (I believe) 5% of cruise fare as OBC (rounded to nearest $25 I think)

I only use Costco when I book a GT rate. I would use a TA if I wasn't a Costco member. I normally don't use either because I like to be in control and I change my mind a lot.
When you book s GT rate you can't change anything anyway. It's a done deal. You just sit and wait for your room assignment. If you want to prepay gratuities or make a request for dining just have your TA do it and then your done. Check in and excursions can all be done online as you normally would.
