Stateroom change?

Just got an email that our stateroom is being moved down one room…which isn’t necessarily a big deal but we wanted a non-adjoining room and now we are in an adjoining room. It’s deck 9 and the rooms on either side are still open when I just looked online. Anyone have any luck getting your stateroom changed back? Or know why they’d move us like that? No reason was given so didn’t know if it was worth it to try to get it changed back.

Same thing happened to us. One room over. Not sure why. We were also non-adjoining and now adjoining.

It’s a bit of a bummer. I wonder if it makes cleaning rooms easier? On hold with DCL now so will update if I have any luck changing it.

It's likely that they're balancing workloads for room hosts or that they're balancing lifeboats. Still, it's disappointing when you choose a specific room (which usually costs more!) and then they move you somewhere else.

Just got off the phone with DCL. Not another non-adjoining room on our sailing and the only reason they gave was “necessary stateroom change”. Frustrating but at the end of the day still going to enjoy the sunshine and sailing.

Technically all rooms next to, across the hall, or diagonal from each other are adjoining - ergo every room on a cruise ship is adjoining another. So they were correct that there are no non-adjoining cabins.

Rooms with an internal door are CONNECTING.

FWIW, I've had worse issues with noise from non-connecting cabins than I ever have those with the connecting door.

This happened to us and we only found out about it as we were checking in at the port. We had connected reservations and it ended up breaking that, so our connected reservation was now at a separate table for dining. They had to fix things for us to pick up the previously connected minors at the kids club. Luggage was delivered to the wrong room (not a big deal since it was just down the hall). But it was an annoying hassle that involved several trips to guest services as we found different broken things along the way. They did end up getting everything fixed (and putting everyone at the same table for dinner). We had an awesome guest services person assigned who made things right, but it was only a three night cruise and we probably spent the better part of half a day figuring out and fixing the things that got messed up. We ended up finding out that we got moved at the last minute because someone on the previous sailing was doing a back-to-back and asked to stay in the room we had picked. The cabin I booked was not a GTY, so DCL made a conscious decision to move me out of a room that I picked simply to avoid telling another guest no. But the ramifications of that to our sailing were significant.

I would be pretty upset to find out that was why I got moved. I guess DCL room choices is like a seat on an airline. You are promised a seat on that flight, not actually THE seat you picked out when you booked it. It's super disappointing to learn that first hand for sure. You'd think if they insisted on moving you to make someone else happy, they would also make sure to link up everything that would cause issues for you, so you had a smooth cruise. Or at least provide some sort of compensation when it went wrong. A plush Mickey on the bed, and a room credit can go a long way it making it easier to forget a small hassle.

Or a free upgrade to concierge if they're already moving anyway!

I was pretty upset, but there was nothing the guest services person could do about it at that point. The damage was done. Losing the cruise time is hard to come back from.

Room credit was not offered. They did leave the traditional "we're sorry" bag of popcorn and crispy treats along with some Castaway merch.

It's such a small thing, but it leaves a lasting impression. And it's an impression that plays into the equation when I ask myself questions like "I'd like to book a Mediterranean cruise, should I go on Disney or Celebrity?"

This is why I cringe every time we see questions here on the DIS boards when someone asks something like "I'm on a back to back, but we don't have the same room on the second leg" and everyone tells them to ask to get the same room. This is what can happen when they say yes.
