I'm hoping this is the right place to post this...

When I first went to WDW in 1999, they had just started the State Quarter series, where every year for 10yrs, they would print the special Quarters depicting each state. Well, I went again in 2001 and have most of the ones from 1999-2001, but I'm missing anything after that.

What I want to know is if the older ones are still in circulation, or whether they were released for a short time or something, and now no longer around! So, could anyone let me know about this, it would be really helpful, I soo wanna start finishing off the little map I have with my special coins! Thanks!

Hi!

I've been collecting them too. I have two collector's books that I'm saving them in...one for DD & one for DS. I see the past ones in circulation all the time so I bet you'll be able to find some ones you missed, although they may need some cleaning.

What's the most recent one you've gotten? I've got Colorado for both kids but somehow I haven't seen any Nebraska...and that was released right before Colorado.

Good luck with your completing your map!!

Edited to add...I just went back & reread your post & see that you don't have any after 2001. You should be able to find the missing ones.

I have a book with these quarters too. I havent had any problems finding ones I am missing. Its usually the newer ones that I have to wait for. If you let me know what you need, I can keep an eye out for ya. It might be easier to find certain ones depending on where you live too.

I have a collection of all of them. I have kept 5 of each state - one for each member of the family.

I believe all states that have been minted so far are still in circulation. Some states had fewer coins minted than others, though.

What you could do is go to your bank and get a roll of quarters. Then see what states you get.

Each series was minted for about 10 weeks (thus 5 different quarters per year). I would agree that some are easier to find than others. I think that they must have made trillions of South Carolina quarters because it seems that every other state quarter I get in change is from there.

Good luck in your quest. I wonder if the mods would ever consider a state quarter trading board.

Hum, I dont think the UK banks keep rolls of US quarters! :rotfl: I think the oldest one I'm missing is PA, but with a holiday hopefully approaching, I'll keep my eyes open and will be raiding everyone's money pots, replacing my missing State quarters with regular ones! :lmao:

If you have free time and a bank teller who is not overly busy, you should be able to find a lot of what you need at your bank.

I have a funny story, though. My DS collects the state quarters and in 2000 he had everything except South Carolina. We were searching everywhere and just figured we'd find one someday. Lo and behold, that summer I took a trip to Rome, Croatia and Bosnia. I went to a small store in Bosnia to get a candy bar and since I paid in US $$, they gave me change back in US $$ as well. Sure enough, they gave me a South Carolina quarter and it definitely has a story we'll always remember! :goodvibes

And I usually get mine in WDW of all places! :confused3 Whenever I take a trip up there, I will find the newest one I don't have as yet! :thumbsup2

Hey!! When we were in Disney in May, that's where I got my 1st Colorado quarter. I didn't even know they were out yet, until I saw it.

For anyone who may be interested here is the order of release for the state quarters;

1999; Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut

2000; Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia

2001; New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont, Kentucky

2002; Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, Mississippi

2003; Illinois, Alabama, Maine, Missouri, Arkansas

2004; Michigan, Florida, Texas, Iowa, Wisconsin

2005; California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, West Virginia

2006; Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota

2007; Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah

2008; Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii

The more astute among you will notice that they are being released in the order that each state became a member of the Union, or, in the case of the 13 original colonies, in the order they ratified the Constitution.

So far I have collected up to and including Kansas, and hope to come up to date in October on our next trip!!
