There are no poisonous snakes in the state of Maine.

The slogan on New Hampshire license plates is 'Live Free or Die'... these license plates are manufactured by prisoners at the state prison in Concord.

There are more people in New York City than there are in the states of Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Hampshire, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Hawaii, Delaware, and New Mexico combined.

Mississippi has more churches per capita than any other state.

Detroit has the most registered bowlers of any city in the United States.

Illinois's coal reserves contain more energy than the oil reserves of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Approximately 55 streets in Atlanta have "Peachtree" somewhere in their name. (I can attest to the validity of this one-and they are each connected to another one!)

Colorado has more microbreweries per capita than any other state.

Virginia boasts a town called Scrabble.

The largest glacier in Alaska is the Malaspina Glacier, which covers 850 square miles.

Arkansas has the only diamond mine in the US.

California farmers and ranchers produce $73 million in food, fiber and flowers every day.

Delaware was the first of the thirteen original states to ratify the Constitution of the United States.

Georgia was the first state to allow women full property rights.

Idaho is the only state to have a state seal created by a woman.

In 1997, Kansas produced 492.2 million bushels of wheat, enough to make 35.9 billion loaves of bread.

Louisiana is the only state that does not have counties. Instead, LA was divided into ecclesiastical "parishes".

"The Paper House", which is a house made entirely of newspaper, can be found in Rockport, Massachusetts.

North Dakota grows more sunflowers than any other state.

Very intersting...thanks for the post. I can tell you that New Mexico's state motto is, "It grows as it grows." Sorry, but I don't know it in latin.

Nebraska has the only unicameral (single-house) state legislature in the nation. I believe we are also the only state with 100% publicly owned power.

New Hampshire is the only state in which the residents are allowed to revolt against the government pursuant to Article 10 of the State Constitution. :)

That's really cool...didn't know that. I know that New Mexico is the only state who's state house is round...it's shaped like the Zia, or sun, symbol, which is also the state symbol.

Rhode Island never ratified the 18th Amendment (prohibition). They also got a jump start on the revolution in 1772 with the Gaspee burning.

The only interesting thing I can think of for Ohio is that we not only have a state bird (cardinal) flower (carnation) song (Beautiful Ohio, also Hang On Sloopy for OSU), but we also have a state vegetable (Tomato).

Utah sends the highest number of recruits to the FBI of any state (not sure if that is by percentage of population or just straight up more)
