Starwoods Amex

I just got my Starwoods Amex card! With my first purchase I will get 10,000 FREE POINTS!!!! I currently have ressies at the Swan so I don't think i will use the points for that but I will be using the for my trip to NY.

Just wanted to let you know that free points they are offering!

I've had it for 3 years and have used points at many hotels including swan and dolphin. $10,000 point start is great. You also accrue alot when you stay at starwood and use the card to pay. I'm assuming you are an spg member already?

I was looking at that offer a few days ago (specifically to see what kind of discount I'd get at the Swan). Can anyone tell me if there is an annual fee, what type of discount you'd get at the Swan with the 10,000 points, and any other info. related. Also, we have the Starwood card--can I combine discounts, or would one be better than the other? TIA.

The only spg discount I have seen is by 4 get 5th night free and that was last year on the website. You can, of course use spg points to stay at swan/dolphin 10,000points/night. AAA, Teachers/nurses discount and general public discounts are good thruout the year. Don't know what you previous post means by starwood card. I have starwood am ex and each purchase accrues spg points as do the stays you have at starwood resorts. You can be an spg member and not have the credit card...I was confused with the question of combining?

Sorry about that. Yes we do have spg membership, but not Starwood AmEx(yet). May get it just for this offer. Can you combine the 10,000 free points for signing up with discount for teacher, military, etc.? I understand you must make a purchase with the card first--is there a minimum? Are there any other fees associated with the Starwood AmEx? Thanks for your help.

The points you get are spg points and can be used anyway you use your current points. They will immediately link your points earned on spgamex to your spg account;using the amex for any purchases add to your general spg points.You can also use points for free nights or any other spg rewards program such as room or suite upgrade. If you stay using teacher's discount you would have to pay out-of -pocket , use your spgamex and accrue points. If you want to use your $10000 points, that is good for one night at swan or dolphin. You could use points for some nights and case discount for others. Remeber, you will accrue spg points for the dollars you charge to spgamex for you future use.
