Starving Artist Paintings

Anyone ever go to one of these? I haven't but they intrigue me. I am curious what they are like. What are the paintings like? I'm assuming they are probably mass produced by masses of artists....

I've never been to one, but the ads I've seen for them make it look like a bunch of overpriced, cheesy landscape prints. Not my cup of tea, and not the art I'd be looking for to decorate my home.
But as I said, I'm only going on the ads I've seen for them, so it's more of an assumption than an opinion. There could be more to them than that. If there's no cost to go, it might be worth checking out.

We went to one years ago. Some of them do look like mass produced lookalikes, but there were also some unique ones as well. We ended up buying a painting of what looks like a Mediterranean village.

I believe it is a case of buyer beware re. Starving Artists, but if you have already bought a piece you like from sale, enjoy it. I'd strongly recommend checking out Ebay, Etsy, consignment shops, local art school sales, and craft sales for original art instead.

When DH and I were first married (33 years ago) we went to a starving artists sale thinking we would be able to grab something inexpensive for our new apartment. Well the "paintings" themselves were cheap, but none of them came with a frame, and those frames were nowhere near what either of us would have called cheap.

Guess we were lucky they were greedy w/ the frame price or we'd have been contributing to something not so nice.
