starting out - direct vs. resale

In 2007, they allowed people to extend the expiration of their contracts to 2057 from 2042. So there are two sets of OKW contracts in the wild, most with a 2042 expiration and some with a 2057 expiration.
I love okw but Saratoga or animal kingdom even would be better. It’s not hard to book at okw. I would only get okw if the points are lower than saratoga

I am with you on AKL. I would much rather stay at AKL than SS or OKW personally. I do think having a car is very helpful at all 3 though. The issue with AKL is the higher MF but that is the price we will pay to guarantee a balcony breakfast with giraffes I suppose.

Yeah and now okw is higher dues that animal kingdom. To me Okw makes no sense unless you’re getting the heck of a price.

What makes okw special in dvc world
It is the first DVC resort. The original name was Disney Vacation Club, so it has nostalgia. Next it has the largest rooms in square footage. And it has the only studios with 2 real beds, not a bed and a pull out or a bed and a murphy. It is very peaceful (like SSR). Downsides are - feels like a moderate or garden apartment complex, not a resort with a grand lobby and buses to all parks. SSR and OKW definitely have a different feel compared to the other resorts, most prefer the more single large building, inside hall, grand lobby feel, but there is a crowd that prefers the quiet/remote feel at OKW.

My breakfast companions this past Dec., 10 mornings sipping my coffee watching these 3 :)2524FB34-2BE6-4B37-A6A4-35A30ABCFA09.jpeg
But, AKV is relatively easy to book, especially Kidani, compared to smaller resorts, since it’s a larger resort although it’s tougher to get than SSR or OKW.

Riviera’s dues are higher than AKV as well!

Those OKW 2 real bed studios will be joined by VGF2’s 2 real bed resort studios 6/19/2022.

We've only bought direct. It's fast and easy so, yeah, that convenience comes at a price. Our first contract was purchased with the focus on the 7-month window. The 7-month window worked for about 4 years and then we found ourselves paying cash to stay around Epcot in the Fall because by Fall nothing walk-able is available. We purchased BLT thinking we'd enjoy the walk-able location to MK. Well, we've no littles so lots of times we don't even bother visiting MK but it's a cheaper access to the Lounges around the Lagoon and the monorail to Epcot. If you're keeping up that means 2 contracts we use mainly to stay other places.

The other aspect of these 2 contracts are they will last long after we're gone and our progeny do not want them. Dependent on your age, purchasing a contract with a shorter length can be a positive.

DH likes Florida and I like Disney Springs so our small contracts combined together gives us 3 weeks in Florida annually.

My only other 'food for thought' is DVC seems determined to limit resale owners.
