Well, I checked in here a couple of months ago and was struggling with WW at the time. Since then I have basically been winging it. NOt lost any, but haven't gained back any of the 22 I had lost either. So that is good. Problem is I have about 90 to go still so something needs to be done.

I read the New Diet Rev. this weekend and it makes a lot of sense to me. Not sure how I feel about the idea of committing to this for life, but I figure I will just take it a couple of days at a time. I had read the book once back in 1998 and it didn't make sense to me and I knew I couldn't do it. Since then, I have had gestational diabetes and now it DOES make sense. I could definitely relate my eperiences to what he was saying.

I am a little worried about no milk. I don't drink a lot of it, but I am so programmed to my two glasses a day....

Anyway, any first timer tips anyone wants to throw my way will be welcome. I will check in and let you guys know how things are going. No more lurking here.

Good luck Julie!!!

Advice? Well, expect to feel icky for a couple of days. Atkins is a huge adjustment for most people, and I felt BAD for about a week, then sore for another week, and then I settled in and now I feel great.

Always, always have snacks prepared. Every week I go through the grocery store ads, and for a while I was amazed that I can't eat at least 95% of everything advertised. Gone are the days when a granola bar or a banana can tide you over. If you plan ahead you'll be fine, but you don't want to allow yourself to get in a situation where you have no protein choices.

I love Atkins...I plan to eat this way forever. I hope you enjoy it as much. :)

I've been on Atkins since last January and have lost almost 50 pounds of the 100 I needed to lose. I love this way of life! That's coming from the person that use to eat potatoes, pasta and/or bread for every meal!!

I can't believe how much better I feel in mind and body. I'm looking forward to reaching my goal and every day is a new adventure as those long forgotten hip bones slowly emerge from under all that extra bulk!!

Good luck on your new way of life and please check in and let us know how your doing.

Although I haven't read it yet -- I understand that the Southbeach diet is also a lower carb eating plan that does allow milk. They stress lower fat and carb ---- quite a bit different than Atkins but it IS working for alot of people.
:D

Absolutely give it a try, Julie. :)

I think you'll be so happy with the results, and you will feel so good (after the first few days of carb withdrawl) that you will decide to continue.

I can't imagine going back to my old way of eating and I was a major carb addict. My favorite foods were pasta, potatoes and rice.

The thing is, now that my blood sugar level is stabilized, my cravings are gone. I eat to live now instead of living to eat. I never in a million years thought that would have been possible, but it is. :)

I missed drinking milk at first too, but now I don't think about it anymore. I get my dairy from the cream in my coffee, cheese, one yogurt a day, and the occassional whipped cream dessert! :)

Good luck - it sounds like low-carbing is the way to go for you!

Well, I am on my third day and it's going pretty well. Hard to get used to eating a hard boiled egg instead of some pretzels or something for a snack, but I am getting there. I even was gone from 6:00 in the morning until 10:00 last night and didn't stray once. I brought an egg and string cheese along for breakfast, went to McD's for a salad at lunch and had a cheeseburger with no bun and told them not to bring the fries. I also had gotten a low carb bar for a back up snack. I was really proud of myself.

Monday, I felt really yucky--headache, tired, nauseous, the whole deal. Yesterday was okay--still had a headache. And today, I have a headache and my teeth and jaw hurt. ANyone had that happen? (Not the headaches--the jaw/teeth thing.) Is this normal?

Overall, so far I am pleased and it's easier than I was expecting.

hmmm....I don't know why your teeth & jaw would hurt. Have you been eating steak or something really chewy? If not, it's probably not related to your diet.

Keep up the good work!! You'll make it through your first two weeks with no problem! Try other things for snacks too, instead of just boiled eggs. Cheese slices, beef stix, pork rinds, celery with cream cheese, pepperoni crisps, etc.

Well, thanks, I guess I will just keep brushing my teeth a lot!!

by the way, I have made it through two DAYS not two weeks. Bummer, that would be nice. As for the snacks, I have had some cheese, I am trying a couple of the Atkins bars and I intended to have beef jerky, but DH got a kind that has carbs. The celery is a darn good idea.

thanks for the feedback.

You got some great advice, Julie! I just wanted to say Good Luck, I know you can do it!! :) We are all here if you need some support or encouragement!! :)
