Starting a dinner club

I was thinking about trying to start a dinner group in my area. Has anybody organized one of these and if so, do you have any tips or ideas? I was thinking maybe have it be where the host each time (probably once a month) provides the main dish and guests bring sides and dessert. I'd also like to have each month's event revolve around a theme. Any suggestions on how to get started?

We used to be in a card club and everyone just brought some thing for dinner-more of a potluck then a sit down dinner. There were some other Game Clubs around town where you played a different game each time-again with everyone bringing something to eat.

Some friends are in a dinner club and with their club the hostess makes everything as part of the fun is not having to make dinner that night. Each hostess comes up with their own theme for food for that month.

We had one & we would pick a theme & the other rule was it had to be something you have never made before. So we had some flops which was ok because in the end it helped with picking out new recipes & trying new things.

We did Pizza, Different countries, crockpot, fresh herbs, under 5 ingredients

My cousin used to do this with four other couples choosing different ethnic theme each month. They rotated homes with the host providing the main dish, others bringing the remaining courses.

In my 20's & 30's, we did as golfgirl suggested: game night once a month with the host providing food & drink, nothing really elaborate, though.
