I'm 44 and I love the idea of possibly starting my first charm bracelet and start collecting them at the parks and on our first cruise. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if I would wear it much, but I like the idea of collecting them. Are there any other ideas to possibly display them other than a bracelet? Maybe I would wear it on special occasions, but I always thought it was for little girls...I don't know. Anyway, I read that there are cruise charms of the ships, so maybe I'll start one. What are your thoughts?

I started my first bracelet when I was 39--I had always wanted one as a child, but never had one. I love mine--and it gives others a gift idea. I now have one in gold and one in silver, and am considering an Italian charm bracelet. The only problem I have is being able to put my gold one on, so I don't wear it as often as I would like to. The silver one is a cuff style which is so easy.

You are never too old to do anything! I say go for it! I have been thinking about the same thing for a few years...I am 43. I think I will join you :)

What is an Italian charm bracelet? I'm very new to any of this, would love some advice. How much do charms go for?

Does anybody have pictures? thanks!

While on our honeymoon in the parks I decided that I wanted to do the same thing. I want a traditional charm not the italian. I got one charm at the parks and one onboard. I looked at the braclets but didn't find anything I really liked so I will find one here at home. I just think it's such a cute way of showing disney without it screaming DISNEY!!!!

two years ago and I WAS 48!
I only put Disney things on the bracelet, that I have
bought at Disney or on the cruise. I begged them to
get a Disney cruise line charm, but still haven't seen it.
I wear my bracelet everyday.

so what is the difference bet. italian charm and regular charm?

Italian charm bracelets don't have the charms dangling from a bracelet. The charms are links in a bracelet, though some Italian charms have dangley(sp) things on them. They sort of look like a stretchy watch band. My dd got some cute character charms for hers on our last cruise.

I've seen lots of ladies wearing Italian charm bracelets. I like to borrow my daugher's. Enjoy and have fun.

The Italian bracelets are "flat". Very comfortable to wear and mine is still shiny after two years. I'm hoping to add a couple more charms when we take our cruise in February.

Sorry, Jillpie – I should have explained in my earlier post. An Italian charm bracelet is one with rectangular links. The “starter” bracelet is filled with blanks and retails for around $10.00. There is a very large selection of “links” to add to the bracelet, (about four are needed to make the starter bracelet wearable) and then the blanks are replaced with links that are meaningful to you. At the moment, I’m wearing one with a birthstone Mickey Head (bought at WDW for $4.00), a cruise ship that resembles the Disney ships (available from Zoppini for around $15-20) gold “mouse ears” (bought at Jewellery store at MGM for $16) some aquatic charms (dolphin, sea turtle, sea horse) DH bought because we both love diving, and a whole row of Mickey heads on the back of the bracelet. (They have a starter bracelet at WDW and on the cruise that’s flat with “Mickey Head silhouettes” on it. There are also character links and even some dangling links available for around $20 each.

I love it and wear it almost every day. I’m looking forward to adding more Disney charms so I can transfer my diving ones to my second bracelet and have an all-Disney one to wear!

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Is there something similar for little boys? My six year old would love something like that.

I was thinking about a Disney charm bracelet but then on the Wonder my DH surprised me with a necklace and bracelet set they sold in the giftshop which was actually more to my liking. It came on rolls which they cut and individualized for you, fairly inexpensive. It is gold and has Mickey heads all over it (also comes in Minnie heads). The bracelet is my favorite, I wear it every day and it is totally noncumbersome. I get a lot of comments on it. I had the earrings I'd gotten before at the Poly on our anniversary trip (unfortunately I lost one recently). On our cruise this year I got DD7 the same bracelet in sterling silver, she loves it.

One of the things I love about WDW/DCL is wearing all of our *fun* Disney things without feeling silly! princess:

Can you mix Italian Charms from different sources? Buying from Disney and from other sources?
In other words, are they interchangeable in the way they link together????

Might buy an inexpensive starter....and add the more expensive Disney charms to it...will this work???

Sure, you can use the inexpensive italian charms mixed with the more expensive italian charms. I have a basket italian charm bracelet and I think each of the charm links was less than $5.00. The expensive ones probably will last longer, but the cheap charms have held up fine for me.

I had two silver charm bracelets when I was a child. One year for Christmas, I took the two bracelets to a jeweler, had all the charms removed and reattached according to each of my two daughters' interests. I have added to these bracelets every time we have taken a trip, or sent money along with them on their trips to buy charms.

I love buying them the charms, and two years ago (at an age over 40), I finally talked my husband into buying me a gold charm bracelet - printed off what I wanted from the internet and left it on his pillow a month before Christmas!

When we were on the Magic, I was thrilled to purchase beautiful sterling silver charms of the ship (which I put in their stockings on Christmas morning), but nothing in gold! I, too, have requested that Disney carry more gold charms, but I guess their market is bigger for silver. I did buy the girls charms at each port - in Cozumel we swam with the dolphins, so I got them each a dolphin charm with a Cozumel tag on it.

I love collecting charms for the girls, and now for myself - it is fun to look at their bracelets and think back on all the great trips we have taken.

Life is short - we are never too old to pursue something that would bring us joy!
