After a delicious early noon lunch at Hollywood Brown Derby and an afternoon hitting the highlights at Hollywood Studios, it was around 3:30pm and we were on our way to the airport for our 7pm flight. Knowing we had quite a few quick service meals left that were just going to go to waste, and that I likely had to buy dinner at the airport was bugging me. We thought about bringing pizzas from Pizza Planet to go, but all of the counter service meals would need to be reheated...

On our way out, just before 4pm, we happened upon Starring Rolls Cafe.... I had been there earlier in the week for a coffee and pastry and remembered seeing cold cut sandwiches on gorgeous bread, so we asked if they could package us some meals to go and they did! Alma was amazing there... On the regular dining plan, our quick service meal came with either turkey or ham sandwich, a bag of chips (doritos/cheetos, etc.), any pastry or dessert/fruit (we got red velvet cake a gorgeous M&M brownie) and a drink. We opted for kids size apple juice boxes as I knew they'd let me take that past the TSA check. And they did! When our flight was delayed, I unwrapped our gorgeous meals and we ate contentedly and still felt that Disney magic :) I'm sure it saved us $50 easily!

Just a tip to anyway who may be at Hollywood Studios and need a meal to go! They close at 4pm though!

Great tip! I'm glad to know things can be packaged to go, if only to lug across the park and eat with my family.

Perfect - We always go the DHS on our last day and then head to the airport! Maybe I'll pack a collapsible cooler to keep them in...:)

Super! One of our kids will force us to eat at a burger/chicken nugget place, so I'll get our lovely meals to go and then we'll get him his fried food meal.

Yay cupcakes!

Awesome idea! I just re-arranged our touring plan to spend our last morning at DHS before going to the airport and had already thought about bringing food (OOP) from the resort CS. This is even better! TSA won't confiscate my Butterfinger cupcake, will they?;)

I flew over Labor Day and paid for airport food twice. Oy vey ... if I'm going to pay that much it might as well be good Disney food!:)

I didnt notice the sandwiches, but the red velvet cupcake was to die for! I was in Epcot my last day before heading to the airport and also had some CS credits and used them in Paris. I got a ham and cheese sandwich and the cheese plate with pastries. I thoroughly enjoyed eating them at my gate. I didnt take any drinks because we had full mugs we were drinking from and didnt want to carry extra drinks through the park. Thats a very good tip about the juice boxes!!

While I haven't tried the sandwiches they looked awesome and if they are anything like the cupcakes (the red velvet cupcake and butterfinger cupcakes) were the highlight of my june snack credits!!!

I had no idea you could take food through security. Guess I just always assumed you couldn't and never asked.

We always go to Earl of Sandwich, Wolfgang Puck Express, the French bakery, or the Boardwalk Bakery to get a meal to go to the airport. All will pack your food to go. Using DME you have time to eat dinner before loading the plane. I hadn't thought about Starring Rolls though or about taking a kids size apple juice through security. That's a good idea. We love their cupcakes. We always just get a bottle of water and try to drink it before security. After security we fill the empty bottle with water from the fountains. We've never had a problem taking any food through security. Your condiments must either be on your sandwich or in the 3-1-1 bag though.

At the BW bakery you can get a sandwich with a little bowl of pasta salad, a bottled drink, and a piece of their homemade cakes for a CS credit. We love their carrot cake. The slice is huge. I usually eat half in the airport and then the other half on the plane. We also like WGP Express' salads and sandwiches. I've had people in the airport drooling over my meals. Sooo much better than airport food!:rotfl:

You can take food. You cannot take liquids, gels or pastes.

Mustard on a sandwich is fine but you cannot take through a jar of mustard.

However, the OP states they were allowed to take apple juice boxes through security - don't know how they were able to do that unless the boxes were less than 3 ounces and in a baggie.

Yes, we showed them the juice boxes and they ok'd it...... They were not in a baggie. We've been able to do this at Washington dc and Atlanta airports as well....

Can't believe they allow drink boxes of more than 3 ounces to go through security.

I understand they allow baby formula, but this is the first I have heard of an exception given to juice for children.

Just looked it up online and actually it says greater than 3 Ounces are ok for juice and limits only to 'reasonable quantities' which I guess would depend on flight/layover time, etc... but it must be separated and in a clear baggie....here's the link:

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm

It is supposed to be for babies and small children... I guess you could have a problem if you have older kids or no children....

This is a definite stop for me. Red velvet cupcake. Will this be swiped as a snack or a quick service meal? Can't wait to try this place!

Please be aware that SR has a limited amount of food made for the day. When they run out its not replenished.

On some days, people report by 2 its pretty much slim pickings, so if you wait later than that, be prepared to buy something else.

That's good news everything went okay. :goodvibes We have went to Starring Rolls a number of times for a bite to eat at lunch. the pastries a lovely and its quite private due to it being lower than the surrounding area. :thumbsup2

thanks for the tips I always have a hard time trying to find decent QS food at HS.
