I received this in my email today. Dont know how true this is but I will take it as truth because of who it is from.I dont want to start a political war here. Just thought I should post this. I can kinda of see Starbucks point but not to much. To me it is just sad.

Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because
they wanted to let them
know how much they liked their coffee and to request
that they send some of it
to the troops there.

Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for
their support of their business, but that Starbucks
does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and tha t
they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not
support them by buying any of their products!

As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we
should get this out in the open. I know this war might
not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't
mean we don't support the boys on the ground fighting
street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and
I believe is right.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or
you can discard it and no one will never know.

Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all
be there again when I deploy once more.

PLEASE DONT DELETE THIS ... ALLOW IT TO BE PASSED TO ALL

IN MEMORY OF ALL THE TROOPS WHO HAVE DIED SO THAT WE
MAY HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO SUPPORT THEM OR NOT!!!

A friendly peice of advice. When in doubt check it out, no matter who it's from (I question emails sent from freinds and family I'd trust my life with). Make friends with Snopes. Almost every fwd you get is an urban legend, designed to create outrage, spread rumors and fill email boxes with useless junk.

Here is the link to Snopes

This has been a public service announcement.

Since this is a hoax, could the original poster please edit and change the subject of this thread. Thanks.

:thumbsup2

It takes just as much time to do a search on the validiity of an email as it does to post a hysterical post on the DIS.

This post is so irresponsible. It's probably part of an effort somewhere to sabotage a company seen as "liberal." A major corporation would never do this kind of bonehead thing no matter how its leadership felt. Starbucks is a company in the business of making money.

I think this thread should be closed before anyone else is spouting it off as "truth."

A local radio personality actually called a Starbucks in our area last year when she received this email and was told by a manager that this accusation was completely false.

Yeah, so why do people keep propogating this crap. Honestly, I'm tired of these stupid e-mails and posts of urban legends. They're kind of comical the first time you read them, but after a year and several posts/e-mails, it just gets old.

I agree that you should always check with snopes. My sil whom I love dearly used to send me these all the time. She is very trusting. I would always send her a link to the snopes page. I felt bad but she finally got the hang of not beleiving EVERYTHING she recieved in her email whether from a friend or not.

Oh I totally agree. 99% of the time when I get an email like this, I just delete it and never bother to forward it to anyone else.

Me too. I have a client that I work for who is constantly sending me Republican party, rah rah George Bush is wonderful, types of e-mails. Now, she has no idea what my political leanings are, but I just find it weird. Some of the stuff is just so "off" too, but because of our working relationship, I feel like I have to just quietly hit the delete button and keep my mouth shut. What's wrong with people that they think this stuff is appropriate to e-mail to everyone they know? (I know, kind of off topic here).

I've given up on my friends that send me stuff like this. It got to where I was looking at snopes several times a day, and then sending them links to the site, only to have them continue to send me crap. Now I just read the e-mails, prepare to have my eyes roll back into my head, and hit delete.

the biggest red flag for me is when you see "dont delete - pass it on".

My inlaws fall for these email hoaxes all the time. I keep telling them if something tells you to pass it on generally its a hoax. But they keep sending them to me. :badpc:

I have a very dear relative who did the same thing. He's a trusting soul. Anyway, after 4 or 5 replies with links to Snopes, he stopped doing it. I think he started checking snopes before forwarding.

I hate fowards, but absolutely LOVE Snopes. (pssst, thanks for the reminder to put snopes back into the toolbar on the new hard drive :teeth: )

Snopes is great. So is common sense and using your brain. A company wouldn't do this to itself.

These emails are funny and outrageous. I'm amazed at the number of people that believe this stuff.

It never ceases to amaze me. I still get the one about Bill Gates giving away money every now and then. And the Neiman Marcus cookie -- that one was going around on mimeographed sheets even before there were PCs!! And the ones the say if you send it to x amount of people you’ll be amazed at what will appear on your screen!! Has anything EVER appeared on your screen? How many times do you have to try it before you learn?

Oh my mother is the worst about believing this stuff. She always uses "well I know the person who sent it to me wouldn't lie to me" stuff. Remember the email that went around right after 9/11 claiming that malls in the US would be bombed on Halloween? My mom swears that it had to be true because her boss sent it to her, and her bosses wife is from California. to her this meant the wife really knew the person who sent the email out. My mom was furious that we went on about our normal lives on Halloween instead of staying in, hiding from the bombs.
