Are the Star Wars weekends something that they have every year or was it just this year to coincide with the movie? We are going at the beginning of June next year and would love it if they had the Star Wars Weekends then as well. If this is a yearly occurence, do they always take place at this time of year?

It is a yearly event taking place certain weekends in May and June. I was sorry to have missed it this year! :flower:

Great! Our son is just starting to get into Star Wars and he will love seeing everything. What typically goes on during these special events?

I think they had the first one in 2000. I suspect with the success of them, particularly this year, Disney would probably love to have them as long as it's a viable thing. It probably is entirely up to George Lucas, he does keep a tight rein on the Star Wars franchise, so unless Disney already have an agreement for X amount of years to do these, it's up to him. Fingers crossed for many more!

Completely off topic, but SW related. For all of you that loved Darth Tater, there is a Spud Trooper in the works, should be out in the fall.

I can't post websites yet (still too new around here) but allearsnet and the WDW Official website both have more info about it. We went earlier this year. They have some actors and people who have worked on the movie available for questions or autographs. Who Wants to be A Millionare has a special Star Wars trivia game sometimes too. Mickey Jedi and other costumed characters from the movies have a special parade. The best thing I saw was the Jedi Training Academy. They pick several young kids out of the crowd and teach them a few "moves" with a toy lightsaber then each group gets to fight either Darth vader or Darth Maul. I could imagine this might frighten some, but the kids I saw were very into it and were having a blast! It all takes place (for the most part) around the Star Tours ride. I can't imagine them not having it next year, but I guess you never know...

Our son was picked for "Jedi Training" during the weekend of June 3 to 5 and he LOVED it!!!!

When I asked the kids what they liked best about our recent trip, they unanimously said "Star Wars Weekend!"

It was so popular this year that they actually extended it by two additional weekends, and we are also planning to go back next year for one of the weekends!

We have our fingers crossed that we can go again some time and not have it be as crowded as it was this year. My DS got overwhelmed waiting for the Jedi training part, too crowded, too many people pushing, etc. So, maybe another year!

The good news is that it has been extended thru June. It ends the same weekend that June ends. ENjoy!

Rumor has it this may be the last year for Star Wars Weekend. If you enjoyed it, please make sure to write to Disney - so they'll offer them again.

There have been 6 Star Wars Weekend Events.

The first year was 1997. The event has been presented in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

::MickeyMo Woo Hoo!! A Spud Trooper!! I collect Stormtroopers so I can't wait to get one of these for myself. I only just found the Darth Tater recently. I'm not even an overly huge Star Wars Fan but I have this weird thing for those Stormtroopers. LOL

::MickeyMo I was at the Star Weekends in 1997 which might have been the first set?? I was working at WDW then and went each weekend for the Star's autographs. I had so much fun meeting everyone, especially Anthony Daniels (C3P0) because he is both the body as well as the voice. It was so funny to hear him talk. :goodvibes

::MickeyMo I also got to meet Kenny baker (R2D2), Warwick Davis (Wicket the Ewok) who was also Willow in that movie, Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) who I just saw again this year, Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett and also Colonel ?? in the newest movie), and David Prowse (Darth Vader). They were all great guys. :wave2: Rebecca

The official SW site has the new Mr Potato Spud Troopers for pre-order. Probably cheaper to wait for them to be on general release as there is a shipping charge, plus they tend to charge full retail unlike Wal-art and Target for example. But for those of you (like me) that want to make sure they get one!! Or just to check him out, he was on the front page when I last looked.
