I just saw this in another thread. I have never heard of the Star Wars weekends. Can someone describe what goes on, and when it is. Is it a yearly event? My husband is the biggest Star Wars fanatic that ever lived. He would be THRILLED to visit during that time. Thanks!

Angela

Most years it happens 5 or 6 weekends in May and early June. However, when Episode II was released, there was only 1 weekend because there was this big SW fest in Indianapolis.

Since Epi III is coming out in May 2005, it possible that there may be only 1 weekend. They usually don't announce the dates until after the first of the year.

Check out this link for more info on the goings-on:

Right now on disneyworld.com it says:

"Star Wars™ Weekends
Weekends in May and June, 2005
Journey to a galaxy far, far away and come face to face with your favorite heroes and villains from the "Star Wars™" saga."

My DH is also a big Star Wars fan and we usually hit MGM for one of the weekends (it is usually a few weekends in a row in late May/early June). Closer to the date they will have a list of Star Wars actors that will be there each weekend for autogrpahs and pictures and they also do a talk-show style interview during the day. It's not usually the bigger name actors, but rather the guy who played Chewbaca or the old and the new guy who played Boba Fet, etc. They also have storm troopers and other characters roaming the park during the day. One of our favorite things has been the special Star Wars edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire that they play at that attraction during those weekends. It really is a fun event; we'd recommend it to Star Wars fans!

They have a parade every afternoon with actors from the movies (and like the previous poster said, it's usually not the big name actors although I know Carrie Fisher was there one year) and characters in costume with whom you can take pictures. I've seen Chewbaca, Han Solo, Queen Amidala, Darth Maul, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. After the parade, they interview the guests. They also have lightsaber "classes" for the kids and other such events. I've always enjoyed going, even though it's pretty much the same every year... but I don't care, I'm a big Star Wars fan and I love going to the Star Wars weekends... Most of the events and characters are located near the Star Wars ride.

They have that same "big" Star Wars con every year regardless of movie releases. One of my best friends goes to it every year. I don't know whether or not that will affect the Star Wars weekends in 2005, there was less hype with Ep2 and probably will be even less with Ep3.

Not true, when both Eposides 1 and 2 were released they reduced the normal 5-6 weekends to just one, and greatly reduced the number of activities. If you are a SW fan, then do at least one SW Weekends, its a blast!

I was referring to the Con held in Indy mentioned by an above poster, not the SW Weekends at WDW. Just thought that might need to be clarified. It is held yearly. I have no clue about the WDW stuff, we haven't been able to schedule a trip for that timeframe yet!

We didn't know about it until about 2 months before our trip, but we soooo excited to find out we would be there over 2 of the weekends! All of us are major fans! :teeth:

That year there were trivia contests, photo ops with characters, special T-shirts, special pins, padawan training for the kids, cantina parties in the evenings, a few of the real actors...

We were lucky enough to be staying at AKL & ran into Warwick Davis a couple times there - although we didn't stand in line to see him at the park.

The crowds were the worst in the Star Tours area of the park. Some of the lines for photos got quite long - like the one for Han Solo, Chewbacka, an Ewok & ?? all together.

If you're interested, I posted a few of our pix from that weekend in The DIS Photo Galleries. They're in the "piratesmate" gallery.
