We are going down for the Star Wars weekend. My son is 5 and all he likes to watch is star wars. Of course for halloween he was darth vader. What can I expect and is it as good as advertised? He will be so excited.

It's good but can get crowded. Try to arrive for park opening--they do a cute pre-show with Storm Troopers while you wait for the park to open. One side of the park is the dark side and the other part is the light/force. You'll find the music and characters (and even the color light sabers for sale) change accordingly. WWTBAM is all Star Wars Trivia. They also do a junior jedi thing at different times during the day--your son might or might not get picked, but it's fun just to watch if he doesn't get picked. The shop in Star Wars gets packed, so if you want to buy something there try to plan ahead. Overall, your son should love it.

We have been 3 times and will be there this year for the 4th!!!!

It is one of our favorite things. DS (12) is a huge Star Wars fan. He has been a SW character every Halloween since he was 4!!! Of course, I'm not complaining because I'm old enough to have been a fan since the 1st movie :rotfl:

If your child likes SW, definitely go. The characters are a nice touch and there are several "photo ops" throughout the park. The jedi training is a really great show. DS was convinced (a few yrs. ago) that he was going to "try really hard to get picked", but when Darth Vader came out...he was mesmerized and really quiet, so he didn't get picked...but he still thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Last year, he was "too cool" to scream and yell in order to get picked, but we still enjoyed the show. They have a special edition of WWTBAM and there are several "talk show" style format shows featuring stars from the movies. There are different stars every weekend.

If your son has a costume, he may enjoy wearing it. My son wouldn't because it was too hot, but there are lots of people around wearing them, so your son may want to do this.

Have a great time!!!!!! :yoda:

On the flip side, what if you're NOT a SW fan during the SW weekends? Should we just avoid MGM during that time and just go during the week?

TIA!

It is definitely more crowded for SWW. Our first couple of visits, we found the SW area mobbed, but the rest of the park was pretty normal. It was very easy to experience the other attractions in the park.

Last year, the entire park was overcrowded. There were long lines for everything and it was impossible to get in a restaurant without an ADR.

We went once for SWW and on another day during the week. The normal day was much better as far as crowds. If you don't care anything about seeing the SW activities, then I would definitely go another day during the week.

Just thought i would let you guys know that the Jedi training accademy that is part of starwars weekends is comming 3 months prior to the event.

The reasons you ask?

it's a trial period to see how well it does. if it does well , it will become a perminent addition to that part of the park.

so they are doing the Jedi training academy now? Not just for the SW weekends? We are going next week and my dd would absolutely love it if that was the case. Unfortunately we arent able to attend in May/June when they have the SW weekends.

No, it is not. I'm not sure where that poster got the info but as of now it's only being held during SWW.
I think it is posted on starwars.com.Maybe on the SWW thread if I am not mistaken. So I am quite sure it is going on.

It's not going on now, but it will start soon. Training for the attraction starts very soon. But MGM is my home base, and This is what my manager told us yesterday. Like i said it's an un anounced test run, but they realize that that part of the park needs more kid friendly attractions and jedi academy has always been popular.

Does anyone have any idea of when they may start the jedi training in testing? How would we find out if they were doing it on a day we were at the park? My 2 ds would LOVE that.

I am trying to find out if anyone feels confient they will extend the star wars weekend this year.... We can't go until after 6/15.... Thanks!!

I stand corrected as I had this information confirmed. More info on it can be found here: http://sww.mgmstudios.org/main/?q=node/64

It begins March 27 and should be running every day after that.

They've done it 2 years in a row so there's a good chance it'll happen again this year. Personally, I wouldn't book a trip based on that alone but if you have a trip planned eitherway, I'd say there's a good chance of it being extended.

I hope so... we can't go until the weekend after it ends.
