Yeah, don't stake out a place with a walkway in front of you.
No experience with Star Wars, but for HEA we were trying to use the walkway to cross the hub, and 10 minutes before the show, the walkway just filled in with people and stopped moving. We were almost to Tomorrowland, where we hoped to watch the show from the bridge so we could bop over to Buzz after, but we didn't have any choice. It worked out okay for us, but I had my ten year old stand on my feet in front of me to try to give him an extra few inches to see the castle. He still couldn't see everything.

I wonder how it would be staking a place on the bridge right on the castle side... I know it's not the best view for the projections, but an off center view would be better than none at all.

We loved HEA enough that we plan to book the party next visit, even though the cost makes me a little sick to my stomach.

At MK I'm guessing you were further up by the castle? The CM's have some walkways open closer towards Caseys Corner/the turf. But I'm wondering where you were crossing at because a few times I've watched from up front by the castle the way people were sitting they were kind of leaving a walkway. It wasn't marked with tape or CM's guarding it though. So once it got closer to showtime it filled all in. When it was open it was actually quite annoying to me because it was open behind me and I had people pushing to cross over and push strollers through and I was trying to move out of people's way and just wondering the whole time what they were doing because it wasn't a walkway. Then when it did fill in, just like what happened to you, I saw people get mad because they were trying to get through and they just met a wall after thinking it was a walkway.

But for the walkways closer to Casey's Corner/the turf, the CM's keep everyone moving so it stays open, just like at HS.

I wish the set up for fireworks was better, I wish everyone just stayed seated, and I wish they would just ban iPads from the parks.

We were walking on the "back half" of the circle (assuming the castle is the front,) and CMs were actively moving people along and saying to keep the path clear. Right before we would have turned right to head onto the bridge to Tomorrowland is when we came to a standstill. In fact, there was a poor lady with a stroller in front of me trying to join her family and a church youth group behind us. The people behind the line were yelling at them that they had been sitting there for an hour saving their spot, and that they couldn't just stop there and block their view/the pathway. Unfortunately, there was no where for anyone to go, nor were there any CM to be seen at that point.

I don't know if that always happens, or if a CM got sidetracked with a different problem.

Definitely worth staying if you are a Star Wars fan. In my opinion it's the best night time show in WDW, but I love Star Wars.

Ahh ok. The makeshift path I was talking about was up a lot closer to the castle and never had any CM's around.

It would be nice if somehow there was a way to constantly keep an open path through the hub right by the center. Have ropes or something

We love Fantasmic and have never seen the Star Wars spectacular, but we do love Star Wars. On the day we are (tentatively) planning to be there, Fantasmic is at 8 and Star Wars at 9. Is it feasible to do both? Would we want to position ourselves near a Fantasmic exit? If we've seen Fantasmic several times is it worth it to skip Fantasmic for SW?

Its not the fireworks that are cool but the Star Wars light show. And yes, it is worth it.

Oh if you saw the firework show I saw back in 2015 for Star Wars at HS, you would have LOVED the fireworks. Best show I’ve ever seen. Man I miss it. Don’t know why they stopped it. Blew away anything Disney ever did. I think it was called symphony in the stars or something like that

It's worth skipping Fantasmic to see the Star Wars fireworks.

Those times should work fine. Preferably sit close to the Fantasmic exit so you can beat the crowd out

Likely, but no guarantee. Many people didn't like the view from that viewing area. It was better from the previous location.

I did see that show many, many times and I agree with your assessment. Lots of positive feedback, but it was just too expensive to do every night.

I saw Fantasmic last fall for the first time since 2011. I love it! IMO it’s the best thing at HS right now, but I’m making it a priority to see the Star Wars show next trip.

May I ask for a little more detail on this? I've read a few posts here and there regarding this advice but want to get it right. Do you stand right on the tape marking the walkway to prevent others from stopping in front of you? I'm 5'3" and Star Wars is life. I want to see this one so badly and the stories in this thread make me nervous.

The CM's will put a tape walkway down on the pavement running horizontal to the stage area. The walkway is basically smack dab in the middle of the park. My wife is a little shorter than you so we get there usually about 30-45 min prior to the show and sit/stand just behind the tape with the walkway in front of us.

In my experience the CM's do a great job at keeping people moving and if they try to stop they let them know it's a walkway and they can't stay there.

You'll definitely see what I'm talking about when you get there. But I'll be there this weekend so I might snap a pic or two of it

My husband is a big fan of Star Wars so we want to catch the show, and per Robo's map, anywhere in the plaza should be good, right?

I think it's weird that people take full size iPads to the parks. I wouldn't want to carry one of those around all day. Also, it's incredibly rude when they hold them up to record a show and block the view of those behind them. I can't watch the show because they want to watch it AND go back and watch it again later? 30-45 min should be good but I would aim to get there 30 min prior to the Disney Movie Magic projection show which is usually done 20 min prior to Star Wars. The area you want to be in is fairly small so the earlier the better.

Anywhere toward the middle of the park with a clear view of the Chinese theater is where you want to be. Robo's map shows it well.
