Star Wars: Galactic Starship (resort experience) News

Just thought of this: what if they do end up with a more watered down hotel than what the die-harders want... :(

Might they do something like more ELABORATE immersive experiences once or a few times a year to draw that crowd?? Like a special event period where those folks can truly live the dream... for a tad more $$ of course... :confused3

I need to stop thinking about this so much... so early...

I think it's more likely they go full bore up front, get the for hands on property and hope they spend a few more days in the parks and get hooked on WDW in general - see how that goes

Then after a few years, they try different things - maybe just the fully show once a week and a lesser version once and then once just a meal or something

Or maybe a few times expanding and do a full on full immersive week line on eor something

I think they know this is new and can be a real game changer and will go full out - at least for a bit

I can't see them going full convention with this. Disney never has particularly liked visitors being in costume besides how immersive would a herd of Princess Leias and Darth Vaders be?

As for costumes for females (if allowed), I always loved some of the female Jedis. Those seem like big time fun. If I ever had the money and enough geekiness back in the day, I would love to have been Shaak Ti. I know that lots play her but she's cool.

They will keep to that and we wont be dressed up like major characters, no Stormtroopers or bounty hunters or helmets of any kind. We will have clothes similar to the background characters. Me personally, I hope I am dressed like the ice cream bucket guy :D

Don't give up now!!! It's way too early!!!!!!

You: read what I wrote to her above!

Come on, people!! It's far too early to give into cynicism!!

Momentary setback, back to full 100% speculation! Though slightly tempered, I am now thinking I should book at the same time as a costume group for better immersion :D

For some watered down character buffet, ain't no body going to the trouble and expense to ship their costumes...and, there will be some, who will be out altogether at that point. After re-reading the announcement ad nausem, I'm now thinking it will not be the experience diehards are wanting, so those of us looking for that will just keep our SW fixation at conventions. Not that I won't be super excited about the new land! Of course I am. But for *me*, just this diehard, I'm NOT having breakfast with Chewie - just no. I've met Peter Mayhew IRL several times. Now if they had an amazing, Jabba, I might change my tune...

It could still be great. I'll be interested to hear as this project continues if they continue to use the word "immersive" and how much they focus on "unique/boutique experience" or they start to shift to "fun for the whole family." I think this could definitely accommodate a family, absolutely, but if they're trying to capture the WDW visitor, and not turn the SW fan into WDW fans - no thanks, it won't be the experience *I'm* looking, so I'll look for my droids elsewhere. We just don't know what kind of client they're trying to capture with this yet, but I can't wait to see, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, AND they don't have to please me. I've got enough WDW stock if this brings park attendance up in droves and let them recapture some eroded market share, I still win. If they build something *I* am interested in and it brings in the bucks - hell yeah!

I just want to thank ya'll that are staying optimistic. I think I've been listening to much Disney vs. LFL stuff.

Please Disney - listen to your nutty fans!!! We will give you money.

I do think I've, personally been too optimistic about even the idea of being able to bring in your own costumes. I'm not even hoping for that anymore, which is good. I pack 2-3 outfits per day, swimsuits, a load of shoes into a carryon for a 3-4 day trip to WDW, so at least packing will still be easy. I can't bring my accessories and makeup in a carryon to do Amidala.

The main reaction I saw coming out of D23 was basically "shut up and take my money!" - so I think Disney knows people are will to pay for unique experiences (there is a lot of work around how we have moved into an "Experience Economy" - beyond Disney) and I know the DIS team picked the Star Wars hotel as their #1 news item coming out of the event

I just can't see them going this far and at least not trying out the fully immersive concept. Maybe it won't work and a year later we will have the watered down character buffet, but I think they know this can be unique and will be on a smaller scale as far as # of rooms and should be significant profits - at least initially

I must confess I skimmed, so I may have missed it.
There is no mention of specific location for this resort, correct? Did they at least confirm it's for Florida? Given that it won't have any real views of the outside world, it would seem to allow it to be placed in otherwise undesirable locations.
I'm guessing similar technology will be used in the space restaurant in Epcot to simulate a view of space.

They definitely did not indicate a specific location - it's funny that now that you mention it I can't remember if they specifically said Walt Disney World - but I am pretty sure they did

So far people are thinking it will be in part of the land being cleared near the back of DHS which would put it near the back of Galaxy's Edge and allow for the "exclusive" time in the park area and could go straight from the hotel so as to keep the immersion. I believe the idea is the hotel is a space craft so you could "dock" at the land and walk down the gangplank into the back of the land

I agree...but you know...they could hypothetically put it in the woods across victory way from pop/caribbean and make somekind of link to it...not entirely impossible.

Some are saying next to swan. I don't see the point of that.

Late to the thread...from previous talk...just swing by Tatooine later to make up for the lack of sunlight. If you have to leave the ship, you are escorted to the escape pods to make your Cinderella dinner. Some turbulence every now and then would seem authentic. A buffet MUST have blue milk. If this goes well, other cities could get by with an immersive experience hotel with any old space (or underwater) theme.

That's true - would be more hidden that way - and they could have some sort of transport - make it that you are taking a shuttle down from the main ship and have it structured/function similar to the Hogwarts express

Putting it by the Swan makes no sense to me - I think it is people connected two unrelated rumors as there was a rumor of a boutique hotel to be located near the Swolphin - but I think that is separate from this

While it will be character buffet breakfast, it wont be your typical Disney character breakfast. It will put the characters to work instead of going table to table. A Rodian will serve your eggs, while a Droid brings you another drink type thing. Would be nice if the Cantina was more adult, but I would expect a majority of it being family friendly.

It'd be freaking close to the park if they did that. I mean you can stumble that path already.

Yeah. Le sigh. I have no interest in a family friendly bar, but that's what they'll build. And that's fine. I've got 0 interest personally.
