Hi

Long time reader so have at last registered!

Wanted to ask a question and see if anyone can help. I have booked a surprise trip to WDW for my husband's 'special' birthday in October. I plan on telling him and our six year old son three weeks before we go when it is actually his birthday.

I booked it a couple of months ago and it has not been easy keeping this secret! There have been a couple of hiccups - my son's favourite ride is Test Track which was due to be out until end of Sept when I booked and then this, of course, was extended by two months to end of November. Next bad news was that Typhoon Lagoon closes for two months on the day we arrive -my favourite park in WDWand our favourite water park! Now I have started to worry about Star Tours. My son has become a massive Star Wars fan since turning six in Feb and, although thrilled when he finds out he's going unexpectadly, he is already going to be gutted that Test Track is shut. I am worried that a Star Tours rehab will be announced which will just be the last straw. So does anyone know if it has a rehab this year already?

Thanks!

:wave2: Welcome to DIS

We have just returned from WDW and i too was gutted when i heard Test Track was closing. As far as Star Tours is concerned, i've heard nothing of it closing. I would also be very surprised if it was as its only been open for twelve months after a complete overhaul, and it is very much improved now:thumbsup2

I know how hard it is keeping the surprise, so good luck, its well worth the effort even though sometimes you think your going to burst:)

should be ok with star tours as is been updated already, rode again for the first i in years last year and was better with the upgrde

It reopened from a major update last May. It hasn't been closed since so a minor rehab could be possible any time depending on the required maintence schedules. Don't panic though I would guess any rehab would be short and there is nothing to say a rehab is due this year.

Yeah as others have said, Star Tours had a big refurb already.

Have you tried Blizzard Beach? perhaps do this as TL is closed-they usually have one open if the other is closed.

Its a shame about Test Track-just means youll have to go again.;)

Thanks to everyone for your words of comfort!

We did actually go to WDW last summer and so went on the fab new Star Tours ride and DS enjoyed it on a 'this is nice' level. But as so often happens with young children, his tastes have changed and he has become mad about Star Wars. Since then, he has been talking a lot about how much he is looking forward to riding it again. Hopefully any shutdown would be short as you say and we would be very unlucky for it to hit on our week.

We have been to Blizzard Beach a number of times and we will put up with it in October as the alternative. But we just love Typhoon Lagoon - the theming, the atmosphere, the music; it's all just perfect to us. Just never seem to find somewhere we like as a base at Blizard Beach in the way that we have 'our spot' at Typhoon Lagoon. But a day at Blizzard Beach in October is definitely going to beat a (no doubt) cold, wet day in Wakefield so we'll manage!

remember when TT was first due to open, think the first 2 years we thought o well it might be open next year.it took GM to threaten withdrawal off funding for it to finally open.

I know exactly what you mean.
We tried BB for a change this year, it just didnt feel the same.
Like you said we had 'our spot' but couldnt find anything similar.
We also prefer the theming at TL better.

When is Typhoon Lagoon closing? I have been looking but I can't see the date anywhere. :confused3

I was hoping to TT to be open in time for our trip but it looks like we are out of luck on that one.

28 October is the first day it is closed.

I really expect TT to open more than a couple of days early.

Phew I was worried the Typhoon Lagoon was going to be closed on our trip. OP I'm sorry it will be for yours.

Yes keeping my fingers crossed for TT being open when we go. Our last day is the 20th October so lets hope they have it sorted out by then.

Sorry, I meant to say NOT open more than a couple of days early. BTTMR had soft openings only 2 days early after its recent rehab and I would guess TT would follow a similar pattern.

Yeah thinking it might be too much to hope.
