A friend of mine just told me that there was somewhere she took her ds to build a light saber while they were at Disneyland last year.. Do they still have somewhere to do this?

Yes, in the gift shop outside Star Tours. I know this because my 5 year old BEGGED for one each time we got off Star Tours (and we rode it at least 10 times). :goodvibes

Just know that they are huge. And heavy. And don't have a belt clip.

DS had one for 2 days, on his 4th birthday trip. And then he lost it. Or we did. We think it got too heavy for him and he handed it to one of us, we all stopped at a bench in toontown, and then it was gone. So, first lost, then stolen. Never turned in anywhere.

Lesson learned by us! If the lightsaber is taller than your child, refrain from buying it. :headache:

It looked like a fun project. I was careful to block my boys from seeing it - they would have loved it! But they already have enough at home - lol

You can make your own light saber!? How did I miss this last year...guess I know what I'll be doing this year lol. Love that I'm 24 years old and I want a lightsaber :P :)

I'm with you, 3 of us ended up building our own. :lmao:

I tried to Google it but couldn't find any pictures large enough to see

This is what a double-bladed one looks like fully collapsed

Collapsed is measures just over 2.5 ft

Extended...

Fully extended measures just under 6ft.

Pictures of single bladed available upon request

Thanks for posting those!! That is a massive lightsaber!!

Hey! Cmon, this is a family website! ;)

We bought the lightsabres 2 years back....be warned they are not easy to make - though there is help on site. I found them to be a bit "junky" for as much as they cost - but the kids love them. You have the option of buying a dual sabre or a single one. "Sals" light sabre is the more expensive "dual" option.

My boys and their 8 yr old cousin did the build your own lightsaber twice.
Last June we did it on the last day of our trip and on the way home they all 3 did not work.

On our second trip in September we brought back the lightsabers with receipt and returned them. The CM mentioned there were problems with one of the internal parts. We exchanged for a new do it yourself lightsaber. Those broke by the end of the day so we returned those too.

They enjoy building the lightsabers but would now rather spend their money at the Lego store.

Maybe they've worked out the kinks by now..good luck!

Not only the kids love them. :D

We went to a science fiction convention after having been in Disneyland last year. One of the guests had mentioned at a previous event that he was always watching Star Wars with his son and they were acting out the action scenes. So we decided to buy three light sabres and ask him and the other actor he was doing a photo session with if they'd be my Jedi knights. As you can see on the picture, this was quite a success. ;) The effect is photoshopped, but the size of the blades is still accurate.

Wow! You guys weren't kidding! These things are freakin huge!!

I know DS would LOVE to make one but after seeing the pics- I think we MUST pass- how would I ever get this thing home in one piece??

Plus PP mentioned that they didn't really work all that well. I would hate to spend all the time, money AND effort getting it home only to have it break once we arrived!:headache:

The single ones fold up quite well, and the plastic is surprisingly sturdy.

I had two of the ones on the picture in my checked luggage, wrapped two t-shirts around them and they made the trip to Germany safe and in one piece. They still work, too. Maybe I got some from a good batch. ;)

The single ones aren't too bad. They easily fit in our suitcase. Just be sure to wrap them up with clothing and place them in the centre of the suitcase. We bought two in 2007 or 2008 and both still work until this day. They're a big hit with all the kids that come over to our place. I have a feeling we might be coming home with the double sided one this time around!

Has anyone made one more recently?? Does it still work?

DS would love to make one of these but I don't want to get one from the "bad batch"!:cool1:

Also, how much are they? I'm assuming the singles are less then the doubles, anyone know the price?

Last time I made one was in mid March.

I dont have the receipt in front of me, but I THINK the double bladed one was about $24. I could be mistaken
