My family and I are going to WDW in July and for the first time in a long time we will have a child with us. He's 9 years old and very into Star Wars. I thought I read somewhere that you have to get timed ticket for when you come back to be "trained". Does anyone know anything about this or where I can get more info?

Thanks so much!

1- I thought I read somewhere that you have to get timed ticket for when you come back to be "trained".

1- Correct.

2- Arrive early at DHS. After Rope Drop, head straight to the Star Tours area,
You'll see a Jedi Training stage and a line will form with kids and their parents.
Tickets (giving show-times to come back -or- even stay and be a part of the first show, if you're early enough)
will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, until all slots are filled for the day.
(No, you can't predict how soon they will run out of slots, so that's the reason to arrive early, and first-thing, just in case.

If there is more than one adult in your party, send someone with ALL of your park tickets directly to Toy Story Mania to grab FastPasses, while another adult takes the kid(s) to the Jedi Sign-up.

Yes, you'll need to be at DHS for rope drop (opening). Then head straight to the Star Tours area with the 9 year old and get in line for your show assignment. Once you are given a slip of paper assigning you to your show, you'll be free to tour the park and come back 30 minutes prior to the shpow that your child is in.
If there is more than one adult going that day, I recommend that the second adult head to TSM with the groups tickets and get FP's for everyone.
The 9 yr old must be present on the Jedi line...he'll be asked a few questions before being assigned (do you promise to follow the instructions of the Jedi Master? Are you willing to defeat the dark side?...)

I've never seen the show can someone fill me in as to what actually goes on?

DD is 11 and is just getting 'into' Star Wars although she doesn't like Darth Vader. Is he in the show? Is he scary? Is there an age limit for the young Jedi trainees?

JTA is for ages 4-12. All of the participating kids learn some lightsaber moves and then use those moves against Darth Vader. Yes, he is there and could be intimidating, but I would think an 11yo should be fine. It's a lot of fun for SW fans.

Basically, they teach them basic choriography with verbal cues that they use in the show. It's very simple & although Vader is scary, the Jefi masters are very supportive. My DD did it at 4 years & was fine! Have fun!

sounds like fun - thanks for filling me in. I think we'll see a show then if she's interested sign her up later in the trip. Our September trip is going to be 10 days I suspect we'll do it then. In May we're only down for 5/6 days and 2 of them are scavenger hunt days!

my boyfriend so depressed about this. I suggested this attraction to him thinking that maybe he had never heard about it being the fanatical star wars fan that he is (which was my mistake because he knows everything about Disney and what goes on there) and he said he's actually gone to the show but he pouts because he never gets picked due to his "being to old", to which I responded just believe you're Peter Pan and you won't be "too old".

I think essentially having a FP for participation in the Jedi Training Academy is a big improvement over the old way. They used to just point to a bunch of the kids standing in the crowd, typically those who were jumping up and down the most enthusiastically. My son did eventually get picked for a show, but it took going to three shows. At least with a first-come, first-served sign up in the morning, everyone is on equal footing. Plus, kids are less likely to feel "rejected" this way when the more boisterous kid next to them gets picked and they get passed over.
