Star Wars Fire Works Timing

After 4 years of not getting to see the Star Wars fireworks for various reasons, this princess has insisted that this year we will see them. Everyone was on board until DH reminded kids that you can go on TSMM at park close walk on (traitor). So DD10 wants to go multiple times since we missed it last year. We are hitting it once at RD. What is the latest you would leave TSL to get a good spot for the fireworks? We are going the first week of May so average or below average crowds. The park closes at 9 and the fireworks are scheduled for 9:30. If it matters, F! is scheduled for 9.

When we were there around New Years - very crowded day, we were able to walk up right as they started. There were lots of spaces in the back near the planters that still had a great view. These weren't high priority for us, but we really enjoyed them.

There is always the divide and conquer approach. Send the rest of the family off to Toy Story Land and you stake out your Star Wars spot. Decide on a meetup spot for afterwards. We’ve used 50 Prime Time for meet spot. Away from the mobs leaving from Fantasmic & Star Wars.

Keep in mind that while Fantasmic starts lines will be shorter. Last year we got in line about 45 minutes prior to the start of the fireworks and the wait time was marked as 40 minutes. But we took the chance and were done with TSM in about 20 min and had a great spot for the fireworks.

Yep. We had good luck two years ago asking the CMs. They were completely upfront with us, saying that the wait time wasn't nearly as long as posted as TSMM. I'm definitely hoping to hit it a couple times in the last half hour and then head over to fireworks. I'm glad that's a strategy that seems to work.

We went on TSM this week around 7:45p for an 8pm close, then headed over for the Star Wars fireworks that were scheduled for 8:30p. From about 8p-8:15p or so they showed varied clips on the front of the Chinese Theater, I guess to help pass the time. We could easily have walked up right before the fireworks started at 8:30p and found a perfectly fine spot, it wasn't packed and it's a large viewing area in front of the theater.

We just had a very similar experience as pp tonight: finished at Star Tours just before 8pm and strolled over to area in front of the Chinese Theater to find it wide open. It was easy to get a good viewing spot for the fireworks show. Actually, we ended up too close, to be honest! DHS seemed really crowded this afternoon (EMH this morning), but my whole family kept remarking about how there seemed to be nobody at the fireworks. It was basically the same last October when we visited, as well.

Things change with the seasons and crowd levels, of course, but I would think you needn't worry too much about having enough time to get a good spot, so hitting TSMM one last time at the end of the day should be ok.

Would agree that finding your spot about 30 minutes before should get you a good spot, depending on the crowds.
if seeing it is really important, i would get there 30 minutes before to find a great spot to see everything.
