How much is the convention going to affect the park crowds overall ?

Should we avoid the parks level of busy?

It will be busy, but maybe more like D23 Expo kind of busy. (Expo was around the same time last year.) The SWGE After Dark Event will be the first night of SWC: Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite on August 27, 2020. I'm expecting that event to sell out rather quickly. If DISers manage to have great trips during Christmas Week, I don't really see any reason to avoid SWC. The fact that you're already here on this board planning bodes well. I think it's more important to know that at that time of August, you're probably not going to get HM (down for NBC overlay installation), the non-peak schedule might be going (so shorter hours, less staffing, less entertainment), and nighttime entertainment will probably be on weekends only (so make sure to include some weekend dates if you want fireworks and F!).
With good planning and organization, a good attitude and lots of patience, and flexibility (i.e. make your plans, then let the magic happen!), you can have a wonderful trip no matter when you visit DLR!

There is also a Disneyland After Dark Aug 27, (I think that's the first night of Celebration?) focusing on Star Wars so the park might be extra busy that day if people decide to spend the day there before the after hours event.

Just an FYI for those who requested a refund - I submitted my request on the first day I could and received a Pay Pal confirmation of the refund back to my credit card this afternoon. Took a while, but it’s one more thing I can scratch off my list for our cancelled DL vacation later this month.

Now I just need the Canadian government to extend the US border closure past the current expiry date of the 21st, so I can call my airline to cancel our flight on the 22nd.
