For Mother's Day, my kids pulled out old VHS movies of when they were little. We spent the morning watching them. One of the movies they pulled out was a movie we recorded at Universal Studios about 20 years ago! We made it when my DD was around 1 years old and she is 20 now, so I think it was around 1993 when we made it. Anyway, it is me and DH and we are "starring" in a Star Trek episode. DH plays the Captain and I play a Vulcan. Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner and the rest of the Star Trek crew make appearances also. It is so funny!!! I remember we went in this room with 4 white walls. The cast members held up cue cards for us to read from. You had no clue what the story line was or what was going on. You just read from the cards. Once in awhile they would say "Look this way." or "Shake your fist in the air." But you had no idea what it was for.

I wish they still did these. My girls really would like to do this on our trip to Universal this July.

Just a trip down memory lane. Did anyone else ever do this???

Maggie

I did that one, as well as the "day at Universal" one.

That building is now the ROTM extended queue.

I would love it if they had *anything* Star Trek at the parks now! I miss Star Trek: The Experience, that used to be at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Yeah...I'm a little surprised there isn't a permanent exhibit/attraction somewhere considering the popularity of the series. I mean there have to be millions of Trekkies running around...right?

Yup, I remember doing that when I was younger.

i was the Captain.... My Dad was the vulcan science officer, and my younger brother did the helmsman. (complete with pretending to drive the starship with a big steering wheel. :rotfl:)

As for why there isn't a standing Trek exhibit or attraction someplace? My guess is it has to do with the cost Paramount would charge for licensing, combined with the fact that the franchise took a nosedive a few years back after the public started to experience overexposure issues, and some of the hardcore fans felt that Roddenberry's successor had managed cause the franchise to jump the shark.

(and I'm guessing the UPN network issues didn't help any)

I remember the Star Trek Experience too!!! DH and I made a tape in 1994, he was the captain and I was the Vulcan. :lmao: Our kids love to watch it, over and over. I wish they still offered something similar as we'd like to have one made with our entire family.

I remember doing with some HS friends my senior year in 1992. I'm not s Star Trek fan, so I would have never done it with out them.:thumbsup2

Years later after it closed it became the IOA preview center.

My husband and I did that on our honeymoon 20 years ago. I hate looking at that video. He is a huge fan and I'm not.

Yep and now it's just an extended queue for The Mummy

We did the same thing when I took my kids there in the 90s. We still have that VHS tape. I should convert it to DVD.

These kids nowadays are funny. They are big on Star Wars, but not on Star Trek. And they thought the Star Trek movie was like some Star Wars bootleg. Then I had to tell them about how Star trek was first, and that many technologies came from Star Trek. And I love the alternate realities in some of the worlds, etc. I just sound like an old man to them.

But I missed Star Trek. But I do get my Star Trek fix by watching Stargate Universe. That show is the closest thing to the original Star Trek than anything.

The last day of that, locals were free. DH and I aren't huge Star Trek fans, but heck free anything I'm up for. It was so sad that I started crying! I remember all the times we had gone and the wee little star trek outfit we bought my nephew. That one was a shame for sure!

We did! I wish I knew what year it was. Aaah memories.

Me and hubby, his brother, and a couple other friends from college:

I will have to see if my mom still havs that video. I also was picked to do the Star Trek show and they dumped a ton of water on me.

Not quite the same, but the Kennedy Space Center is running an exhibit called "Star Trek Live". Here is their description:

"Join Starfleet Academy only to be unexpectedly whisked into an adventure steeped in the grand tradition of Star Trek. Mad Science® presents STAR TREK LIVE, a live 30 minute interactive show combining cutting-edge special effects, unmatched audience interaction, cool science and on-screen appearances from Captain Kirk and Spock themselves to create an exhilarating and unforgettable theatrical experience."

For the true space diehards, I would say it is definitely worth a drive down:thumbsup2

Anybody know if that's New Kirk or Old Kirk?

(Wow... who would've thought we'd ever be asking that question? :rotfl: )

Yes, times have certainly changed:goodvibes From what I understand, the show includes video clips of both William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy but I do not know if it is clips from TOS or something made just for this show (probably edited TOS clips, I bet).
