Star Trek (2009 movie)

Well, I bought the movie the moment it came out ... which means that when they come out with the "enhanced" or "director's cut" version with all the goodies, I'll need to get that, too. :thumbsup2

However, according to the commentary track, YES, there was a scene with Winona Ryder's character giving birth to Spock, then they aged her for the other scenes. They ended up cutting the giving-birth-to-Spock scene (and they referenced several others they cut/changed and their explanations for doing so, but those deleted scenes were NOT in the initially-released DVD. Grr!).

Thank you! That explains it. :)

Winona Ryder, who plays Spock's mother, Amanda, is only 6 years older than Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock, and is 24 years younger than the actor who plays her husband. Ryder was cast in the role (instead of an actress who was actually old enough to be Quinto's mother) because the movie originally was to start with a scene of Amanda giving birth to Spock, but that scene was cut.

I see someone beat me to the answer.

Our local Star Trek club promoted the movie at the theater opening weekend. I took Mom on that Sunday as a Mother's Day gift (it was her and her sister who took all of us to see the Trek movies as kids). We totally enjoyed it. The opening scene teared me up. Can't wait until the next one!

This is not the first time Hollywood has done this. Angela Lansbury was only 3 years older than her "son", Laurence Harvey, in The Manchurian Candidate (the 1962 version). And they didn't age her at all!

I remember in one of the movies, I'm pretty sure it was the one with Spock's half-brother, they showed a scene of Amanda giving birth to Spock and Sarek was disappointed that Spock looked so human.
