Star Trails

On my latest trip, I took HDR sequences of of one of the mechanical palm tress in Tomorrowland and of the Astro Orbiter, both at night. As part of these, I took two- and three-minute exposures. In both cases, despite the ambient light, you can make out a few stars that move slightly during the exposures.

It would be interesting to see what you'd get with a very long exposure in one of the parks. Might you get a bright sky but with a few still-brighter stars? My biggest concern would be finding a place to set up the tripod where it could remain undisturbed from clumsy feet for such a long period.

Jeff, what did such long exposures do to your battery?

Maybe someone should try it who's staying at Contemporary/Bay Lake to get the castle shot? I'll be at Beach in a few months, may be able to try to get such a shot with Spaceship Earth if I have a good view (I did last trip.)

Awesome! Have fun - BLT was all booked up for January already otherwise we may have stayed there. I went with Beach instead of AKV since it would probably be less walking since we'll have a 4-year-old and an 8-month-old... but I am dying to try BLT.

Wow, great shots. That's something I would love to try, but it would have to wait till the next time we are in the states. Here in Mexico City you're lucky if you can even see more then 3 or 4 stars a night (between the pollution and the millions of lights).

I did notice that the bottom of the picture shows no movement (both the grass and the trees are extremely well defined ). Was it a really still night? No breezes at all?
You would think that during a 10 - 30 minute time period there would be some kind of breeze moving the grass, but there doesn't appear to be anything.
