Star Island Resort review

We stayed at Star Island Resort in Kissimmee last week, so I thought I'd post a review. It's on 192, about 8 miles from the Magic Kingdom. We've stayed onsite and offsite before, and this was a nice distance from the parks. We were close enough to leave around lunchtime, nap, and come back in the evening. The strip of retail on 192 was pretty convenient -- there was a Publix and a nice Super Target within a mile of the resort.

I was a little nervous about this resort, since there weren't that many reviews of it out there. But overall, we enjoyed it, with just some noise issues/resort cleanliness issues that were slightly annoying. We were in a mini suite, which had one bedroom with two full beds, a hallway, and a den with a pullout couch, mini kitchen and TV. It was decorated nicely, and clean. We were in building 28, which was very close to the pool. The pool is pretty noisy all day and all night -- they have a DJ all day and parties at night, which is fun but noisy. If you're looking for quiet, there are buildings farther away.

Our room adjoined another, larger suite, that was locked off to us because there were other people on the other side. But they either were the loudest people in America, or the building isn't set up well to absorb noise. We were woken up pretty much every morning by their crying kids. It sounded as if they were using the adjoining door as a time out spot. Good times.

There are two pools and a hot tub. One of the pool as a zero entry side, and so that's where most of the younger kids congregate. There's also some fountains for toddlers, which were fun. Overall, the pools were pretty crowded, but nice. No complaints there. I also enjoyed the music all day, but that's me. If you don't like a party atmosphere all day, you may not like the pool entertainment.

They also had a nice sandbox area, and a bounce house, and a playground. The bounce house was disgustingly dirty, and was up for only one day while we were there, and then disappeared. Which was fine by me, because I in no way wanted my kids in there or to go in there again myself.

Overall, I'd give it a 6 or a 7 out of 10. The staff was cordial, but not overly friendly. We left my son's shoes, the only pair we had with us, at the pool, and realized it the next morning. They were gone, and no one seemed particularly willing to help suggest places to look or to note our room and say they'd call if they were found.

Hope this is helpful!
