A good friend of ours just informed me that she will not be able to use her timeshare this year and offered it to us for a really, really GREAT price.
Almost too good to pass up, however, I was just on trip advisor and this place is getting very mixed reviews. If I was reading right it would appear that people are staying in different resorts, or at least very different building, room types and locations within the resort.
It seems like half is owned by Wyndham and the other half by another company which is making me very confused!:confused3
Is there anyone who has stayed at this resport as part of their time share, my friend has never stayed here personally so she can't tell me anything about it. The airfare is very pricey as it would be for the summer so even though I am getting a great price for the resort, the airfare is going to be a big price tag so to get all the way there to discovery we are staying in a crappy resort would be a real let down to say the least.
Any info, recent photos and feed back on this resort as well as advice as to how so many people can have such different opinions on the same place would be most helpful. Thanks everyone. p.s. this would be our first venture staying off Disney property so I am nervous to say the least to begin with.

Star Island is generally well-regarded, but not considered in the "top tier" of timeshare resorts in Orlando. It's on my list of places I would stay, but in the past there have always been better options for any particular trip (the Hiltons, Bonnet Creek, the DVCs, etc.)

advice as to how so many people can have such different opinions on the same place would be most helpful.
Read the TripAdvisor reviews for *anyplace*, and you'll see pretty much the same thing. I go more by overall rating and the "trend" than anything else.

We stayed there in June 2009. It was fine, not a disney resort, but our room was nice, and spacious, and we had no issues while we were there. The kids complained that the pool was a little cold, but again, it was nice.

About 10 minutes from the edge of Disney World, so you add in a rental car to expense of trip.

That being said, we've stayed on property every time since. We just enjoy being immersed in Disney.

Oh, and if you want to PM with an email address, I can send a few pics of our room. Probably not much different than on the website, though.
