I'm sure there will be differing opinions (maybe not!) I had something happen Sunday that I wanted to get opinions on. My DBF and I, in our 60's, got in line for the People Mover. The line was very confusing and there was a point I thought we were in the wrong line. We stepped out momentarily to walk up a bit to make sure we were in the right line. We were so, then we went back to our original place in line. (We had stepped out for no more than a few seconds. A man standing nearby (he wasn't even in the line) started accusing us of line jumping. We tried to explain to him that we were already in line and we had become confused for a moment about whether we were in the right line or not but he kept insisting that we should go to the back of the line. Should we have gone to the back of the line? (we didn't) If I was in line and saw someone do that, I would have given them the benefit of doubt and allowed them back in. No one else in the line said anything to us.

I wouldn't have expected you to go to the back of the line in that instance.

There is no "right" answer. Maybe someone had just cut in line on the last ride he was on? I'm not confrontational by nature, so I would have just let you in regardless. And after all, it's only people mover....

I'm not sure why you both stepped out of the line. It would have made much more sense for one of you to stay put while the other one checked. You could have found yourself in a situation where you were not allowed back in the line.

It has to do with intent. It doesn't sound like you were trying to skip line and gain some sort of advantage over others. I wouldn't be aggravated at all if I were behind you. You shouldn't grouch at someone at Disney without good reason. Same thing with a parent that takes a child to the restroom during a long wait and rejoins the family. No big deal. However, I saw several instances last week where one person would get in line and then after 30 minutes a whole crew of family would come join them. Their intent was to not have to wait in line. That ticked me off.

How long was the line? I remember when this ride didn't ever have a line.

Maybe the man didn't see that you were already in line and just assumed that you were cutting?

Agree with PP, why did both of you need to step out? While I don't think you did anything wrong, I don't understand both of your leaving the line. There's been a few times when we weren't sure if we were in the right place, so I stayed put and DB went to make sure. You get your answer, and eliminate the risk of losing your spot/other guests being rude to you.

Yes, there was a line for the People Mover Sunday. In hind-sight, I should have told DBF to stay in line while I checked it out.

We saw lines at the PeopleMover in September - I think that's just the new normal. I would've just ignored the guy. If you'd done this at a ride like Peter Pan or 7D, it'd be another story.

The line on the ground sometimes backs up a little when the speed ramp has stopped and they want to restart it. They have to hold everyone at the bottom until the ramp is clear at the top. This seems to happen a lot there. Otherwise I never see a line there.

Honestly I generally am of the opinion that if you leave the line you left your place and if you come back your now at the end. I have no idea why you would both have left. DH and I have definitely had one person go look at something or make sure we are in teh right spot without moving.

Example your at the grocery store you are in line 3 but you think line 6 may be shorter. DH would go check while I stay and then we would move if we thought it was going to be much shorter. If I left the line with my items it would make sense for the person behind me to move up and take that place.

Why would disney be different?

Now if I was behind you and saw that you left I would probably have been nice and let you back in while at the same time rolling my eyes on why you both left in the first place. However I could also see getting upset if I hadn't seen you before especially if I was seeing a pattern of line jumpers which we all know happens occasionally.

What else are you going to do when all the FP rides have a long standby line?

Agree with this.

If it was once I wouldn't have said anything. We had someone do this at BTMRR for FP 3 times. After time 3 of him getting back in front of us I very calmly said if you exit the line one more time you should go to the back. He would take his entire family out of line and jump under/over to the standby line because he was 100% sure the CM had put us in the wrong line and there was no way this was the FP line since it was longer. He would wait 3-4 minutes in the other line and then would see the FP line moving steadily while they stayed still and so he would hop back over. Would look at SB and think it was shorter then hop back. So he spent the entire first 10 minutes of the 20 minute wait hoping back and forth before the scanner. The wait was so long because the ride had been down and was backed up. He just couldn't believe that they had to actually wait! He wouldn't believe us that there was a whole different section of switch backs for the standby line that you can't see from where we were standing.

this is what I would have done and if I was alone then ask the person if front or behind me is this the line for the people mover. there really is not any other rides around ( besides asto) and when the line is long normally there is a CM with a sign that say people mover end of the line here

The thing about wandering out of the line is that other people will get in it and not know you were there. You can't really expect people to just be okay with you wandering back when they don't know you were there- it kind of defeats the whole concept of a line.
