Standard View AKL

I booked a standard room in Feb at AKL but was upgraded to a Savannah view. I didn't realize it until I walked in the room and saw animals right outside my balcony! I loved it! It was an unexpected piece of magic! I knew the resort was booked and didn't even ask for one. Good luck to you, maybe the same will happen to you!

we stayed in a standard room and had a beautiful view of the rooftop and parking lot......BUT........we paid much less than the other side of the hallway, and still had the opporunity to stay at the AKL and enjoy the other great amenities. I would do it again.

We had a standard room and had a view of the pool and you could see some of the animals as well beyond the pool, especially the flamingos. It was a beautiful view. :flower1:

We stayed in standard rooms at akl last month. Had a view overlooking the entrance. The plus was that we could just run up the stairs from the front door and be at our room. We could also run down to the gift shop and to Mara for coffee in the morning. With the Savannah rooms this is really too much of a hike.

The downside was that you didn't get to experience the animals and didn't really use the balcony at all. If it is your first trip to AKL I'd go for the Savannah. If not, the hotel is still beautiful and the room interior is identical to the savannah view as far as I could tell.

We stayed in a Standard Room View the first time we stayed at AKL and had a view of the parking lot. It was our first time at a deluxe hotel so we didn't think anything about it. We to the various locations to view the animals and thought it was great. With the view lacking, we didn't spend anytime out on the balcony though. The next year we went we got upgraded to a Savanah View room and loved sitting on the balcony watching the animals. Last year we booked pool view, and loved the location, in that it was close to everything and not so long a walk to the room.

Room wise the three rooms were identical, except last year we got bunk beds. The main difference is the view and the location.

This year we are going back and I can't decide between Pool or Savanah view. My recommendation is that if it's in your budget to do the Savanah view then go for it, otherwise the hotel is so special I would be happy staying in a Standard view if I needed to.

Do you recall what time of day you checked in? I just wonder if this plays into whether you get upgraded or not. Thanks!

We also booked standard view at AKL 2 years ago and were upgraded to savannah veiw, it was awesome and after having stayed in a savannah veiw room I think I would miss it if I stayed standard. BTW we checked in around 4:30 p.m. for the pp.

Anyone ever stay in a standard view room at AKL? What was it like?

We stayed in standard view rooms. They all face the front of the lodge and the parking lots. Our rooms were in Ostrich Trail on the 3rd floor. (lobby level) Surprisingly, they were quite nice. We were right in front of the handicap parking lot but there was alot of foliage in between our balconies and the cars. It was further from the pool and restaurants but the walk through the lobby is breathtaking so it was not bad at all. We definitely would stay there again.
