I booked a bounceback offer for free dining for Port Orleans RS, but only standard rooms are available. I had a bad experience with a standard room at CBR one year . . . Parking lot lights shining in the room and noise so we couldn't sleep well. I am afraid of that happening again. Does anyone have experience with standard rooms at POR RS?

We had a standard room at POR in April 2015 and had no issues with lights or noise. It was actually pretty quiet. We were in building 37, I think (or 38). It was our first onsite stay and I knew nothing about room requests so I just asked for first floor (we had a stroller and wanted to avoid stairs). We got that. It wasn't a short walk to the main building but it wasn't impossibly long either so we felt the location was fine.

Thanks. That makes me feel better. Did you have a parking lot view?

Thankfully most of the rooms at POR aren't adjacent to the parking lots. I'd recommend checking out the room finder at Touring Plans and request a room in a desirable area.

Our first stay we were in a RR on a parking lot side, and had no issue with noise or lights. The distance to bus & lobby, now that's a different story...:cool1:

We've stayed standard rooms twice. Since we drive, I prefer them as they're right next to the parking lot. No problems with noise or lights at all. We're a family of five, so we're in the AB section.

We stayed in bldg 38 (I believe that was number) and we're very happy. Room was close to Mansions on main walk way and abt a 5 minute walk to main pool. No problems with noise and just far enough away from main building to be quiet but not secluded. Wish I was there now :)

We've only stayed at POR and were in a standard room.
It was a lovely corner room with lots of light. On the top floor and near to a bus stop. I wish I could remember the room number.

We always get a standard room (many times by the parking lot) and have never had any problems with noise or light. We did have noise one time from the room next to us as I think they had 17 kids in their room (at least that's what is sounded like).

I was in Magnolia Mansion, corner room which if you walked out and looked left you saw the parking lot and looked straight and you saw the next building over. 2nd floor. Standard room. I didn't have any problems with noise and the walk to the main building was about 3 minutes.

Sweeeeeeet, do people feel it is accurate as far as walking distance?
If I can be at the furthest building and walk to the main building in 7 mins or less that's on my side to talk my wife into downgrading from pref to standard and saving like $350

The walk times are scaled well, as in if it says "5 minutes" and "10 minute", the latter will take twice as long. It also depends how often you'll be going to the main building. The pool's elsewhere and the buses pick up all around the hotel. Personally, I'd enjoy the $350 savings over the convenience.
