Stamp storage?

Stampin' Up! Stamps come in plastic boxes. Some of the boxes fit the stamps in them well and some have just a ton of empty space in them.
I'd like to jettison the boxes but wonder if I'd regret it.

HOW do you store your stamps?

I keep mine in their original boxes as I like to keep my sets together. Currently they are stacked on 3 large shelves about 2 deep. Larger sets in the back and smaller in the front. A few of the new cling boxes are in between.

I like my stamps in a flat 1" high plastic container about 8 1/2 x 11. I can see the stamps quickly and it is easy to move out of the drawer should I need to.

Yours are out of the boxes?

That's the way I have them now, in bins, but it feels like a lot of wasted space. Do you group your sets by topic?

I thought if I took them out of the boxes, I could put all christmas together, all journaling, all page elements like circles and stitches, etc and it might be easier to choose without getting out every single box I own. But then I'd lose the "set" organization.:confused3

I don't think I buy the same stamps as you, none of mine came in boxes.

I keep my SU! sets in their respective containers (BTW ITA with wanting to 86 the extra space). I keep them in my kitchen hutch grouped by the size of the container. I have started a master log of my stamps in a binder so I don't have to crawl on the floor to find what I need AND my friends can come "browse" my collection without me having to make a mess pulling everything out of the cupboard.

I inherited my friend's stamp shelf that she bought off Ebay for my loose stamps (she can't put nails in her new rental). I think she got it Buy It Now for around $50. It's probably 3 1/2 ft x 4 ft and has adjustable shelves. It's the greatest place to store my ink refillers out of the reach of little hands. I don't have room for the caddy and my kids would make a mess of them.
