Stairs on the Fantasy?

I am claustrophobic and prefer to avoid elevators - can you get pretty much anywhere with stairs on the Fantasy? And if so, are they 'nice' stairs that I can take my kids on, or more like emergency exit stairs?

Thanks!

You can get anywhere on the main sets of stairs.

They are very nice, wide carpeted, the only time really busy is straight after the muster drill first day.

There are 3 stairwells. And they are all located near the elevators (you can't miss them).

Fore, Mid and Aft.

The stairs mid ship are open and carpeted with enchanted art work hanging. There are also stairs to the aft, but not sure if they are the same.

Unless I was headed up several decks, I rarely took the elevator. So much to see!

There are stairs mid-ship, forward, and aft. I don't think there is any area on the ship that is accessible by elevator that is not also accessible by stairs. All three sets of stairs are nice, open, carpeted stairs. I use the stairs far more than the elevators because the wait for elevators can be long.

The elevators are really slow and because they are so small they are often filled when they come. So we almost always take the stairs instead of the elevators. Also because of the amount of food and drink - I need some additional exercise. The only time I take the elevator is on formal night when I'm wearing little wee high heeled sandals that make stair walking slow and unsteady.

The only place on the Fantasy we found we absolutely had to use an elevator was to get to the Outlook Cafe on Deck 14 (aka inside the funnel, above Edge). The only stairs we could locate seemed to go through the tweenage club so we were forced to take the elevator. We may have missed stairs though, and honestly we were just exploring the ship, you'd have no reason to go there otherwise!

There are some cute murals on the inside shaft of the elevators with glass walls (you see them in the atrium) if you can stomach the idea of elevators and want to see them, maybe at a less busy time like late at night. Don't worry if you can't, I wouldn't call it a must do :) We look the elevators almost the entire time on the Fantasy though!

We always book our rooms on deck 7-9 so we can take the stairs up or down to get to the MDR's and the pool deck. The elevators are always crowded and by taking the stairs we work off all the foods that we eat while on vacay!

Yes, we took the stairs almost exclusively. Especially if we needed to go to/from midship.

My advice is to try and learn the layout of the ship as early as you can. Is your room aft, midship or fwd. Then, where is your destination (aft, midship or fwd). Then learn what routes are best to walk on your floor to the destination your are going then use the stairs and what locations are better to use the stairs by your room then walk on that floor.

For example, we stayed deck 7 aft. So, if we wanted to go to the Quiet Cove Pool, we took our floor all the way fwd, then took the stairs so we avoided Cabanas and the main pool area. If we needed to go to the Kids Clubs, we took the stairs by our room (aft), then walked on deck 5 to get to the club.

There is no place on the ship that you can not access via the one of the 3 main stairwells. Outlook bar and Edge can be accessed via a smaller staircase inside the forward funnel. Vibe has a private staircase on Deck 4 on the outdoor promenade They are the only public spaces that aren't located directly on a main stairwell. As someone previously noted, the stairs will only be shoulder to shoulder crowded after the muster drill and if you wait an extra 5 or 10 minutes after the drill, they will be clear and wide open again.

Agree with everything PPs have said. I will add that we generally try to walk to the opposite end of the ship after an "event" (i.e. muster drill or Shows) as the stairs nearest the "event" get crowded really quickly. So, if we are on the Fantasy, going to the show in the Walt Disney Theater...after the show, we will scoot out the theater and beeline past the shops, around the atrium, past Royal Court, down the hall straight back to the aft and then take the stairs up to our cabin level.
